Joba rules to be altered
-sigh- Dont change what is working jeesh, he may now be available the next day depending on how many pitches he throws. Meaning he could pitch everyday because he only averages 14 pitches a outing. this is no good to me. It increases his chances of getting hurt and everything.

This is how it should've been all along, why was it ever by innings and not pitches thrown?
Based on the current rules, if Joba throws 24 pitches in 1 inning he would be 1 day of rest. But if he throws 20 pitches in 2 innings, he needs 2 days rest. That never made sense to me and I'm glad they are changing it.

Thank god those piece of crap rules are out the window....I can't wait to see this kid let loose.
I said this before in another thread
High Shool Pitchers
HS Season -10 Starts 7 IP per game = 70 IP
Legion Season - 10 Starts 7 IP per games = 70 IP
Fall Ball - 10 Starts 7 IP per game = 70 IP

210 IP
College the same thing. These kids throw 210 innings per season since they are 14. Its not like they play High School ball and don't pitch the rest of the year. Why do you think they are so advanced? Because they play year round.

It doesn't make much sense to compare HS innings to ML innings. Don't get me wrong, I do see your point about overall innings thrown. But in high school these guys are pretty much just blowing their fastball by guys and making a joke of the hitters. It's a different stress on the arm and a different routine altogether in the minors and majors. Now they are throwing 4 pitches and each pitch is tougher. And they probably throw half the pitches in 7 HS innings than they do in 7 minor league or major league innings. These guys are babied for a reason, and rightfully so.
Also, these guys are NOT throwing 200 innings in college. Not even close. Joba threw 52 innings as a freshman, 118 as a sophmore, and 89 as a junior. And I'm sure the jump from 52 to 118 is what led to the injury concerns that caused teams to pass on him in the draft. Kennedy threw 92 innings as a freshman, 117 as a sophmore, and 101 as a junior.

Thats where you're wrong, these kids go on to premiere leagues to play against the TOP college players in the country. The Cape Cod league for example has produced TONS of MLB players. These kids go on to their summer leagues and play against top talent and throw another 50 innings. They then go back to school in the fall and play a ton of intrasquad games and scrimmages. Probably approaching 200 innings pitched. They then throw all winter in hopes of bettering their command and arm strength

If I'm wrong then show me those leagues that Joba and Kennedy pitched in, because they did not do so. Don't generalize things with ''these kids'' because not all of them do what you said. The issue here is Joba, and I brought Kennedy into it because he is one of our own who is reaching his innings limit.

Some blurbs about Joba
Played American Legion baseball over the summer of 2004 for Coach Steve Eckman, going 4-4 with a 1.36 ERA, as he struck out 137 hitters and walked only 21 en route to all-state honorsHCYanks wrote:Thanks for reminding me Clay Buchholz is a couple of blocks away from me, Fox. Joba was a freshman in 2004, but he didn't throw in any leagues after that. And Kennedy pitched for team USA a couple of years ago, but that's it. They didn't consistently throw an extra 80 innings every offseason the way you made it out to be, they each did it just once and Kennedy only threw about 30 innings in the tournament. I'm not sure how much Joba threw in 2004 in that league but it sounds like a decent amount.

I found an error in the wiretap. They're missing a semicolon. The title should read "Yankees to change; Joba Rules".
