Minaya was a good scout but he didn't make the final decisions for the Mets in prospects the ok came from Philips and Steve Philips asked for Minaya to join the Mets.

David Wright drafted by Philips
Jose Reyes signed by Philips

you can't take that away from him

With Phillips you never know. Given his track record, I'm willing to bet he wasn't the one that found them. That is what the scouts are for. Sure Phillips might have signed both, but the scouts should get more credit for them.

everyone is wrong Minaya was not the scout, the scouts were Eddy Toledo and Juan Mercado, Minaya didn't want to take a chance on a 16 yr. old 130lbs SS, it was Eddy Toledo that forced his hand then it was relayed to Philips/Duquette they signed Jose and sent him to winterball. Minaya at the time was an intl director of scouting Minaya spoke w/ assistant GM Duquette but he hesitated after seeing Jose

Phillips never saw Jose Reyes when the Mets signed him. It was the scouts who ran the tryout camp which Reyes had attended. They alerted Minaya who in turn alerted Duquette. Phillips was busy dealing with the Mets own minor leaguers and the major league roster. That is why you have assistants and scouts. Oh and it was Duquette who initially didn't want to take a chance on Reyes because he was skinny, not Minaya.

it was both Duquette and Minaya who needed to be convinced , Philips stepped in after they relayed the Cubs wanted Jose. There are alot of accounts for this but I ain't searching all day for this. :D

Phillips should get some credit for Reyes being a Met, but he had nothing to do with finding him. He did try to trade him for Alomar though.

LOL Yankee fans will even make up lies(Minaya not wanting to sign Reyes) to make themselves feel better.
They'll even back Steve Phillips.

Jeez you guys are sad.

and signed Daivid Wright, Steve's mistake was he got star struck and wanted to mortgage the future rumors of wanting to trade Wright for Jose Cruz Jr., moving Reyes to 2B for Kaz Matsui :-?

but since you can't stand him and I don't particularly care about this guy I'll give you your new avatar :D

Ok fine the Mets are better than the Yankees right now.

Fellow Yankee fans, in a ploy (that worked on me) to make me forget about the current Yanks and feel a little better, the YES network is airing Yankees Mets Game 5 2000 WS.

Phillips had nothing to do with the signing. He never even saw him play.

Minaya wanted to sign Reyes, but first he had to get authorization from Duquette who had the final say. Again, I don't know what you're reading, but Minaya was there and liked Reyes a lot. He never would have brought the attention of Reyes to Duquette if he didn't think the Mets should sign him. And a lot of teams had the chance to sign Reyes but passed, the credit goes to the Mets scouts.

You guys have a what, 16 page thread on the Yankees? Even when we suck, you guys are thinking about us. You guys got 2 posters in here doing nothing but baiting and insulting.

Obviously I pay more attention to the Yankees then you, considering you titled your thread, "Yankees vs. the JV team." Care to adjust your position?

After a 3 game series in May? Enjoy the success and don't worry bout what other teams fans say about you. Didn't your mom teach you that when you were a kid?

Leave the Yankee fans alone and tune into YES for the top of the 9th of Game 5 of the WS. 2 outs 2 on for Al Leiter. I wonder what happens.

I just asked who the GM was remember I don't follow your Mets I do follow prospects. And heard 3 different stories like Philips admitting he signed Reyes go on Wikopedia, Jocks Bio saids it's Duquette and others say Minaya. So excuse me for not knowing 100% :-?
