I dig this trade, I really like Betemit and will add a lot of things to the infield. Including security, and the eventual first basemen.

Proctor I don't know about anymore, he should get better in the NL, and the younger guys/another vet. pitcher will get a chance.

Here, it's really simple. The little help that Proctor actually provided this team can be easily replaced by about 3 guys in AAA. Joba, Britton (when off the DL), and Edwar come to mind.

Good deal but that was it? That was the move we made to improve ourselves down the stretch?

You sound like somebody from the Tampa faction.

Why not? Who cares about age or experience, it's about talent. And he is 20 times the talent that Proctor is. KRod was called up on September 16th, a month later he was practically leading the Angels to a ring. Lackey was called up that June and went on to win game 7 of the World Series. If the guy has the arm, he can be successful. Proctor blows, regardless of ''experience.'' How about Beckett winning WS MVP in Yankee Stadium? HOW?! HE WAS YOUNG!!!

If the young guy throws 100 mph with the slider that Joba has, then yes, I really really want to trust a rookie down the stretch in a close race.

I'd rather have Chamberlain getting a chance, than keep going out there with Proctor who's been too unpredictable. Better for the short and long-term. Plus we get Betemit, a solid player who addresses needs.

Here's an interesting-ish read on this deal...

Dodgers deal Wilson Betemit to the Yankees for Scott Proctor

At first glance this seems like a good deal for the Dodgers. Betemit had lost his starting job and had nowhere to play, and the Dodgers bullpen has been devastated by injuries and having to move Chad Billingsley, Mark Hendrickson, and Brett Tomko into the rotation to replace injured starters. However, Betemit

Here's another kinda funny one...

Dodgers Get Proctor: Proceed to Invest in Fire Extinguishers

ESPN.com is reporting that the rumored trade between the Dodgers and Yankees has been finalized. Los Angeles will be shipping off IFer Wilson Betemit to New York for reliever Scott Proctor.

Proctor is generally known for two things: 1) being a victim of an evil plot by Joe

He isn't the only one. Hughes, Roger and Mo also stand up for the hitters. Farns sometimes too, it's just that he has no control so when he throws at someone, it usually winds up right down the middle. Thus, the high rate of home runs. At least his heart's in the right place. -Jitpal

Hughes has made 2 starts, lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I still dont know if i like this trade. I think we have a few bats that can come off the bench like Shelley and when Giambi comes back. Basically if Joba doesnt work out than we are screwed. Farnsworth cant pitch everyday. I just dont think this was a wise trade this point in the season.

Not really. There is Joba, Edwar, Britton, and Ohlendorf just to name a few. Joe Girardi said it perfectly yesterday...we already have 2 other Scott Proctors in Bruney and Farnsworth. They all throw real hard but can't command it to save their lives, so the Yankees don't need Proctor.

am i the only person that doesnt like this trade for the yankees?

proctor has guts man... more guts than farnsworth and anyone else in that pen besides mariano. sure hes wild and uncontrollable at times but you dont question his desire and heart.

hes been the most worthy this year in the pen. its kind of hard when your whole pen is blowing games up and you are only 1 or 2 dependable guys out of the pen night after night. torre lived and died with this kid and it showed when proctor walked in the game winning run a few weeks ago.

do you guys seriously think torre trusts bruney and farnsworth that much? sorry.. not for an unproven player that was at times a flash in the pan with numbers. this "bench" guy better contribute because good pitching > everything in baseball.

sad to see this guy go, honestly he was out on his own island. torre used him because everyone around him blew- and mariano cant do 6 out saves everytime anymore. id love him on my team because i know he has guts, and thats hard to find in this league today.
