LinkIn what only can be described as a strange twist, the Tigers have an interest in taking Kyle Farnsworth off the Yankees' hands.
According to multiple sources, the Tigers are looking to make a deal that would bring Farnsworth back to the team he pitched 46 games for in 2005. Ideally, the Tigers would like to add Texas closer Eric Gagne but he likely will balk at a deal that sends him to a team where he can't close.
Tigers scout Dick Egan was at last night's Yankees' 7-1 win over the Royals in which Farnsworth didn't pitch in. What the Yankees would get back depends on how much money the Tigers want to pay on Farnsworth's salary.
Farnsworth, who is making $5.25 million this year and $5.5 million next season, is 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA.

Beggars can't be choosers. If we need to unload this guy, you give him to whoever wants him. -Jitpal

Farnsworth has proven that his problem isn't NY, it's a big spot. It just so happens that every appearance in NY is a big spot. But even in a bullpen such as Detroit's, he still won't be successful in the postseason. Just think back to the ATL/HOU NLDS.

Just had a thought. What about a Moose + Damon deal bringing us back Andruw Jones? I know his average is down a lot, but he is still very good defensively, still walks a lot and still is driving in runs. If the Braves deal for Teixeira they won't need Jones's bat. This way they also get back a player who can fill in in center in Damon and the warmer weather will probably help him. They also get Moose the bolster the end of their rotation. We get out of Damon's deal. Jones is walking at the end of this year. If he fits in then run with it otherwise let him walk and we don't lose much in Moose and Damon. For this season you significantly improve the outfield with Melky in RF and Jones in CF. It's not like Damon is hitting any better than Jones anyway. Just a thought, might be a stupid idea. Thoughts? -Jitpal

Well Hughes is pretty much back. Then I believe Karstens is also ready. Rasner should be back soon. That 5th spot could be either Karstens or Rasner. Perhaps even Chamberlain. The guy is dominating already, why not let him dominate here in September as a starter. It isn't like we will be any worse this year. Worst case scenario, we miss the playoffs like we are right now but we clear off a chunk of salary to go after some free agents this year. Best case scenario, Hughes and Chamberlain come up and dominate, Jones turns his bat around, and we storm our way into the playoffs. At least that is the way I look at it. -Jitpal
