He is rehabbing, not being pampered.

Escapes a bases loaded, 0 out 5th inning

Double, BB, bunt (Hughes threw to 3rd, Basak couldn't hold onto the throw), flyout, strikeout, strikeout - 22 pitches, 15 strikes. Long inning

5 innings, 2 hits, 1 BB, 0 R, 5 Ks - 63 pitches, 46 strikes

Wow...groundout, strikeout (looking), strikeout (looking) - Both looking Ks were on fastballs painted on the corner - 12 pitches, 9 strikes

6 innings, 2 hits, 1 BB, 0 R, 7 Ks - 75 pitches, 55 strikes

I would assume he is done for the night and will throw another 15-20 in the bullpen to get the pitch count up over 90

EDIT: Worth noting that he mixed in 2 sliders in that 6th inning...

He was so impressive today, I watched him on MILB.tv. He is ready physically, he is ready pitch wise. They just want to get his pitch counts up.

Just trying to read between the lines...

"The entire rehab thing was a frustrating time, so it's good to finally be back.''

Perhaps the Yankees told Hughes something they haven't told us yet

He hates walking people.  That's why he's going to be so good, he gets really pissed whenever he walks anybody.

One more time before hes back in pinstripes!!

1 inning, 0 hits, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K - 11 pitches, 10 strikes
2 innings, 1 hit, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 Ks - 27 pitches, 16 strikes (got squeezed pretty badly but still got out of it unscathed)
3 innings, 2 hits, 0 R, 2 BBs, 2 Ks - 42 pitches, 25 strikes
4 innings, 2 hits, 0 R, 2 BBs, 2 Ks - 48 pitches, 30 strikes
5 innings, 2 hits, 0 R, 3 BBs, 4 Ks - 64 pitches, 40 strikes
6 innings, 2 hits, 0 R, 3 BBs, 4 Ks - 76 pitches, 48 strikes
6.2 innings, 3 hits, 0 R, 3 BBs, 4 Ks - 91 pitches, 57 strikes - BACK TO THE BRONX

I've never seen a guy get squeezed like this, literally 50% of the balls COULD'VE been strikes and nobody would've complained. Oh well, at least he is fighting through it.

6.2 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 K: 91 pitches, 58 strikes

He was getting squeezed a ton today, but he still did terrific. He is ready.

Yup, and I forgot to mention the 13 groundouts - 3 flyouts. He was primarily working on his 2-seamer, which led to the low K rate and the high GO rate. It's amazing that he can basically just choose which way to dominate hitters depending on what he chooses to throw. All while getting squeezed

I would say of those 34 balls he threw, atleast 10 of them could have been strikes.
