Forgot to update at the end of May...better late than never

1. Jesus Montero - .217/.297/.328, 3 homers, 9 doubles, 1 triple, 21 RBI, 21/36 BB/K. It stinks that he isn't raking like we expected and he has to begin to turn it around pretty soon, but he is a 20 year old in AAA so he has plenty of time.

2. Austin Romine - .307/.371/.453, 3 homers, 17 doubles, 31 RBI, 17/37 BB/K. Having a very strong year all around

3. Manny Banuelos - Still recovering from the emergency appendectomy the day before his first start of the season, sounds like he is getting closer to returning.

4. Slade Heathcott - Has been in Charleston for a little over a week now, posting a line of .333/.412/.433 with 1 double, 1 triple, 2 RBI, 1 SB, and a 4/5 BB/K ratio.

5. Zach McAllister - Somewhat of an inconsistent year for Zach so far which is surprising for him. 3.90 ERA with 70 hits allowed in 64.2 innings, to go along with 42 Ks and 13 BBs.

6. Gary Sanchez - In extended spring training

7. DJ Mitchell - 4.94 ERA, in 58.1 innings hes allowed 65 hits, 30 BBs, and 43 Ks. Not a very strong season so far

8. Corban Joseph - .315/.382/.449 with 4 homers, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 3 SB, 23/51 BB/K. Really showing the all around game at the plate so far.

9. Andrew Brackman - 5.14 ERA, in 49 innings he has allowed 57 hits, 40 K, and just 7 BBs. He gave up 3 runs in his last outing, but before that he allowed 1 run over three starts. The walks are very impressive as well. Unfortunately he is now a 24 year old in High-A.

10. JR Murphy - .229/.270/.313 in his short stint so far at Charleston. He does have 4 doubles, 1 homer, 16 RBI, and 3 SB in his 21 games, however.

11. Dellin Betances - Not exactly sure where he is at in terms of getting back on the mound, but he has been throwing for a while. We may or may not see him this year.

12. Abraham Almonte - Out for the year with a torn ACL I believe, which is unfortunate because this could've been a huge year for him. .263/.333/.351, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 3 RBI, 6/16 BB/K, 5 SB.

13. Eduardo Nunez - .303/.341/.380, 12 doubles, 2 HR, 26 RBI, 12/34 BB/K, 12 SB. Solid year so far, but no power and not much defense either.

14. Graham Stoneburner - Was promoted to Tampa in May, in his 5 starts there he has a 2.79 ERA, in 29 innings he has allowed 15 hits, 10 BB, and 30 K. Overall on the year between Low-A and High-A he has a 2.38 ERA, 68 innings, 42 hits, 20 BB, 74 K. Big fan on this kid.

15. Jose Ramirez - 2.93 ERA, 61.1 innings, 50 hits, 18 BB, 58 K. Really rising as a prospect in this system

16. Jairo Heredia - Was demoted back to Charleston a few weeks ago and has posted a 5.08 ERA since. Overall hes racked up 53 innings, a 5.94 ERA, 71 hits, 18 BB, and 37 K. Yikes

17. David Adams - .309/.393/.507, 15 doubles, 3 triples, 3 HR, 32 RBI, 18/31 BB/K, 5 SB. Great year so far.

18. Kelvin De Leon - In extended spring training, will be on the GCL roster which starts soon.

19. Jeremy Bleich -4.79 ERA, 41.1 innings, 35 hits, 28 BB, 26 K. Gross BB and K numbers, which is why his ERA is nearly 5.

20. Ivan Nova - 3.83 ERA, 56.1 innings, 61 hits, 21 BB, 45 K. Had a short stint in the majors and looked pretty good too.

21. Christian Garcia -

22. Eduardo Sosa - In extended spring training, will be joining De Leon in the GCL

23. Wilkin De La Rosa - 5.16 ERA, 29.2 innings, 27 hits, 18 BB, 19 K. Miserable year, huge disappointment.

24. Brad Suttle - .242/.299/.330, 14 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 24 RBI, 19/59 BB/K, 6 SB

25. George Kontos - DL

Pretty much, I'll worry about him again if/when he reaches AAA and pitches well.

I was wrong about Betances, he is actually making his season debut for Tampa tonight. Supposedly he has been sitting 93-95 and touching 97 in his last few starts in extended spring training as he was rehabbing.

Kontos made a rehab start in extended spring training and is getting closer to returning.

Banuelos has begun throwing but there is no timetable for making rehab starts yet, but he is getting there.

Don't give up on Brackman yet, he has been great this year since he came back from his finger injury in early may, which is essentially his first year at full strength. His GB% are absurd and he has been sitting 93-95 in his past 3 starts. Add in the fact that he is commanding the zone, his age doesn't really matter one bit.

If he keeps this up he will be in Double A by end of July.

I agree he'll be in AA shortly, and until he starts proving himself at the higher levels I don't think there is much to get excited about yet.

Betances was awesome the other day. 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. He was reportedly sitting 94-95 and touched 97. Amazing news, hopefully he keeps this up and can begin moving through the system quickly.

To be quite honest with you, 6'11 pitchers that throw 93-95 with an above average curve and have shown a complete 180 in command in his second year off TJS should get you pretty excited..... Remember it took another certain 6'10 pitcher to finally find command and he was 27 when he did that.

That's true, I still hope that he has in fact figured it out and turned the corner after the surgery. I'm happy that he has done what he's done this year and I'm intrigued to see what he will do in AA hopefully later this year. I'm just not nearly as excited about him as I was a couple of years ago.

Nice day on the farm..

Brackman continues his dominance, going 6 innings and allowing 5 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, and 11 K! That's a 51/7 K/B ratio on the year.

He has made 11 starts on the year, but in his last 7 his numbers are 38 innings, 33 hits, 9 ER, 6 BB, 41 K, 2.13 ERA, 1.02 WHIP

Heathcott 1 for 4, R, 2 K, SB...he is hitting .341 through his first 10 professional games

Montero - 3 for 4, 2B, RBI, K...his last 7 games he is 11/27 (.407), 5 doubles...turning it around

Nunez - 3 for 5, 2B, 3B, R, 2 RBI, SB...hitting .323 and has 14 steals in 17 attempts, looking real impressive. Rumor is he is the man of interest should there be trade talks for somebody like Oswalt.

Joseph - 2 for 4, 2 R, K...hitting .313 and really having a great all around season. So far in his 2 pro seasons he has shown a lot of consistency and proving that he is in fact a pure hitter.

Good to see Betances coming back and Brackman finally showing some control. I'd like to see Betances keep it up for a little while longer before I get too excited, but touching 98 in your first game back is quite impressive. And I'm glad Montero is finally starting to hit the ball.

Its not as if I don't want Brackman to succeed, I just want to see more from a 24 year old other than pitching well against 21 year olds for a couple of weeks. Like I said he should finish the year in Trenton if all goes well, and if he continues to pitch well I'll start believing in him again. I defended that draft pick a lot, even after he had TJ surgery because of his potential. Now he is showing that potential, but I still want to see it against AA/AAA competition before I get my hopes up.

As this rate, he probably won't be in the majors until he is 26 years old. And that is if everything goes well in terms of staying completely healthy and developing exactly as planned. I can see the Yanks pushing him quicker (maybe as a reliever) to get him to the majors since he is on the 40-man roster.

I would love to see some reports about his stuff, I wonder how much of his fastball he has gotten back. If he is throwing in the mid 90s I'll get excited, but reports from when he first got back were in the 89-92 range.

Betances was lights out again - 6 innings, 2 hits, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K. In his two starts on the year he has now racked up 12 innings, 5 hits, 1 R, 1 BB, 13 K

With what he and Brackman have done recently, it really really boosts the farm system. These are two tall power arms that we thought had a bright future before some injuries, and that really took the air of the system...but now they are both surging at the exact same time.

Ramirez - 5.1 innings, 4 hits, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K...struggled with control recently. He only walked 7 in his first 45.2 innings, but has walked 13 in his last 19.2 inning.

Heathcott - 1 for 4, BB, 2 K, SB (5th in 11 games)
Murphy - 0 for 4

Phelps - 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K. He is undefeated on the year (5-0) with a 2.00 ERA, in 76.1 innings he has only allowed 52 hits. Very very solid season thus far.

Laird - 1 for 5, HR, 3 RBI...incredible season hitting .305 with a .550 SLG, with 15 doubles, 2 triples, 14 homers, and 62 RBI. Really put himself back on the prospect map, unfortunately his position doesn't have any opening in the near future. Can definitely become a platoon DH/CIF type of guy, his bat should get him to the majors.

Nova - 8 innings, 5 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Nunez - 1 for 4
Montero - 0 for 3

Romine - 0 for 3, R, BB, 2 K
Laird - 0 for 3, R, BB, K

Joseph - 0 for 3, BB
Stoneburner - 7 innings, 4 hits, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K...he hasn't allowed a run in 24.2 innings. His last three starts have been 21 innings, 10 hits, 0 runs, 2 BB, and 16 K

Heathcott - 2 for 6, 2 2B, 4 RBI...hitting .333/.407/.431...also got his 2nd OF assist throwing a runner out at home
Murphy - 4 for 6, 2B, R, 2 RBI, K
Paredes - 2 for 6, R, 2 RBI, 2 K

Montero - 3 for 4, 2B, 3B, R, K...triple back to back days, now has as many triples as homers on the season lol. In his last 10 games he is hitting .405 with 8 extra base hits.
Nunez - 2 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI, K

Laird - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Noesi - 7 innings, 6 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K...in his 5 starts since being promoted to Trenton, his numbers are 35 innings, 31 hits, 5 BB, 29 K, 2.31 ERA, 1.02 WHIP

Pirela - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Joseph - 1 for 4, K
Kontos - 2.2 innings, 4 hits, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K...made his return from TJ surgery, hopefully he can get back to where he was...Kontos was always a favorite of mine

Heathcott - 0 for 4, K
Murphy - 1 for 4, K
Paredes - 1 for 3, BB, K
Almonte - 1 for 3, R, 2B, BB

Staten Island's season began today...
De Leon - 0 for 3, BB, K
Sosa - 2 for 3, BB
Roller - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI, R, BB, 3 K

June 19th:
Montero: 1 for 4 with 2 RBI's (HR)
Nunez: 2 for 4, with 1 RBI (2B)
Melancon: 2 innings, 1 hit, 3 strikeouts
Brackman: 5 innings, 5 ER, 5 strikeouts, 2 HR and 2 walks
I would think Betances will throw their next game.

Anybody know anything about Tim Norton. The guy has a 1.37 ERA, .182 opponent BA, and 39 K's in 26.1 innings. Is he a likely call-up if the struggles in the bullpen continue?

He is on the comeback trail from 2-3 years full shoulder injuries and eventually surgery, so its actually a really nice story to see him get back and pitch so well. Right now, he isn't on the 40 man roster so I don't think we will see him this season regardless of how the bullpen is. At most, you may see him get promoted to Scranton at some point but I honestly think that is it. At 27 years old, he isn't exactly full of potential either so the Yankees probably won't go out of their way to make room for him on the 40 man roster right now.

Then again, he is pitching so well...so we will see what happens.

Return to New York Yankees
