Zach Greinke - what would you give up?

Post#1 » by nykgeneralmanager » Sat Jul 24, 2010 10:04 pm

Alright two questions.

1. What do you think it would take to get Greinke?
2. What would you be willing to give up?

As for #1, I've read on a different forum from a Royals fan that they would start negotiations with Hughes and Montero and work from there. Another Royals fan said Joba, Betances, Montero, and Romine.

To be honest, I have no idea who I'd give up. Montero would obviously be included, after that I don't know. I wouldn't trade Hughes and Montero in the same deal, that is just too much to give up for anybody other than Strasburg. You can throw in Betances and Joba and maybe another prospect like Adams or Joseph since the middle infield is the Royals only area where they don't have top talent coming through the minors. I don't know if that would be enough...maybe Nunez instead of Adams/Joseph.

EDIT:
Don't forget that Greinke is under club control for 2.5 more seasons. While the time remaining on the contract isn't an issue for the Yanks usually, you have to take it into account because it raises the price tag in trade talks.

Joba, Mitre, Gaudin.

Montero is off of the table.

^^^^ on crack if you think Mitre, Gaudin have any value...

Greinke will take Joba, Montero, Adams. or Montero, Gardner and McAllister
Greinke + Soria will take Joba, Montero, Mcallister, Betances, Nunez

I like him a lot in a small market but in NY, he's just too much of a headcase to be successful.

Yeah, if we're being asked to trade Hughes and Montero, I'd say no. Hughes provides good production and value and Montero should be a beast with his bat. Montero at DH behind Cano next year can be really lethal, especially if he puts up a 250/330/450 season at age 21.

+100.

In case anyone forgets the guy was basically out of his mind a couple years ago and only the careful nuturing by the Royals brought him around. Bring him to NYC and he'd make Jimmy Piersall the calmest cat in the universe.

11:23am: The Yankees dangled Jesus Montero in talks for Joakim Soria, reports ESPN's Jayson Stark, but the Royals weren't interested.

Zach Greinke got rocked tonight.. he had 1 great season last season and all the rest have been bad... if we can trade a player to be named later for him i would do that but nothing more...

Thats a little crazy. His numbers this year (before tonight obviously) were outstanding, and that was with a slow start. He is still a top pitcher in this game and would require a ton in a trade. I don't think he can handle NY because he even said so himself, but overall he is as good as they get.

Hahaha fantastic!

Greinke, may have gotten rocked last night, but the dude is a STUD. if he wasnt on the Royals he is good for 18 wins, and an ERA 3.10 or LOWER every year.

Look at his 09 Stats, Even then he got rocked Numerous times, and still had a 2.xx ERA
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?n1=greinza01&t=p&year=2009

Look at his 08 stats. Now a very Servicable 3.4x ERA on the year
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?n1=greinza01&t=p&year=2008

NOW Keep in mind prior to 08, Greinke was a Reliever for the royals! Going from RP to SP and managing a 3.4x and 2.xx ERA in 2 years you were a SP is fantastic! we could have only hoped Joba could of done this... and wish Hughes can do that.

Anybody but Montero... Romine would make me think about it, but I don't think he'd amount to more than a AJ Pzy type, and you'd trade that for Greinke anytime.

Romine + Chamberlain + Russo
