Yankees are out of the mix.
Haren traded to the Angels for Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin, Rafale Rodriquez and a player to be named later.

What a terrible package. Why is anybody still convinced Saunders is good?

Because he had a couple of fluke years and has done it at the ML level. Haren is a homerun machine and not the same pitcher as he was a couple of years ago. Maybe a change of scenery will do him so good.
rumor has it that the DBacks wanted the Yankees to take on Qualls, Snyder and a couple of other players. Yankees balked.
I rather have Cliff Lee in the off season.

Re: Haren traded to the Angels
I'm not much of one for conspiracy theories, but this is yet another case of a team asking the Yankees for the moon for a player and then turning around and dealing him to another team for a joke package. I mean, really? A below average 29 year old pitcher, a nothing minor league reliever and an intriguing but far from the majors prospect? Jesus...

Makes me glad that we didn't give up someone like Betances or Banuelos for Haren if that is what the Angels had to give up

Very happy Haren is off the table and we didn't overpay for him. We need to focus on a reliever like Soria or even Downs and a player off the bench.

Soria? Royals are going to want the moon, sun, sky and the stars for him.
Yankees are definitely going to have to sign a top flight closer in the next year or two and have that person be the setup man for a year or two.

Re: Haren traded to the Angels
There's been reports that the Yankees were never really that far along with the D'Backs and they hadn't really talked the past couple days. Their GM must have done an atrocious job shopping him; i'd have to imagine someone would have given Arizona more than a salary dump, a back-end starter, and mediocre prospects. That ERA is misleading--Haren's peripherals haven't changed enough to be concerned over the long term. The Angels have an uphill climb to get back into their divisional race, but Haren's going to look damned spiffy fronting that rotation with Weaver and Santana.
