WT:Berkman Won't Return To Yanks In Platoon Role

Post#1 » by a-rod » Sat Oct 9, 2010 9:53 pm

I always liked Berkman and i was very excited we got him for basically nothing. And i appreciate what lance did for us so far, And i hove no problem with the message hes tying to send to Yankees management, but honestly there's a proper time and place for everything, talking about off season plans during ALDS is not wise. everyone should focus on winning number 28.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

Makes sense. He can go out and get another 3 year contract after this season for some decent money. Yankees are probably glad because I'm sure they don't want to give him the 15+ million he's owed for next year.

I have no problems with Berkman not wanting to come back. He has been classy since he agreed to come here and I wish him nothing but the best. Personally, I would like to bring Thames back and have him split DH duties with Posada and guys needing a day off. Then bring Montero up half way through the year and let him part time DH and part time catch alternating with Posada.

Just a gut feeling but I think the Yankees go after Victor Martinez. Posada is old and I think the Yankees like the sure thing instead of Cervelli/AAA-Scrub/Montero/Romine. Split DH and catching with Posada and V-Mart. V-Mart backs up first base and then takes over as starting catcher next year. Like a 3 or 4 year deal or something. It's something I could see Cashman doing this winter. It would give the Yankees a huge advantage, because instead of Cervelli starting a day game after night game, it would be V-Mart where the offense doesn't skip a beat. Plus V-Mart is walking in there with experience catching 2 of the 5 guys in the rotation, assuming the Yankees get Lee as well. -Jitpal

we cant add a full time dh, cuz with posada, arod, jeter, guys need time at DH, and Thames can platoon there when facing a lefty

Cashman says that every year. Then he goes and gets a guy like Nick Johnson. I'm not saying I want V-Mart, I'm just saying it's a Cashman move and I wouldn't be surprised if he did it. -Jitpal

They should just move Posada to DH and see if Romine is ready to go.

I like having that DH spot open to give guys half days like Posada and Arod, and its easier to use a 4 man outfield if we get Crawford and sometimes throw Swish at DH. Imagine and outfield of Crawford Gardner and Granderson, few balls dropping or getting past them. That gives us so much speed and high on base % guys for our big bats, Tex, Cano, Arod, Posada, Swisher in the middle of the order to bring em in and get guys in scoring position.
Go Knicks!

V-Mart will be more expensive and longer term. I don't see it. Not the same situation.

The DH will be for Posada next year while he rotates at catcher with Montero, and Cervelli I think.
