should the Yanks sell naming rights to the Stadium?

Post#1 » by Pharmcat » Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:40 pm

simple question, should they sell its rights? like Mets did to Citi?

Ive read that companies have offered 50 million per year (in the NY times a while ago)

imagine that, 50 mill per year, that could get you cliff lee, crawford, + 10 mill leftover :)

or they could just use it to pay of any debt/financing left on the new stadium

where do you stand yanks fans. whose ready to sell their souls? :)

I have no problem if they do it. It would have been sacrilegious to do it to the old stadium, but not with the new one.

No. I don't want "Facebook stadium" or any lame ass sponsor who is a mercenary ( see mets debacle with Citibank who wanted a refund and to give the mets back their naming rights).

Money has nothing to do with getting Lee (who at 32 and a bad back might be good or the next Randy Johnson) who demands CC money and Carl Crawford.

What Cashman wants to do is turn over a profit by underspending. He doesn't like the payroll. Explain Nick Johnson for Johnny Damon? Or last year when the Yanks had a chance for Halladay and signed Mitre as the fill in starter. He's said multiple times he wants to reduce the payroll.

If the Yanks do sell the rights its not due to getting more FA but filling in the empty seats as every inning there is a ticket upgrade giveaway.

Detfink, Damon didn't want to be a DH and it was clear Gardner was a better upgrade in LF then Damon. Signing Nick Johnson didn't hinder the Yankees at all, the guy got hurt and that's it. There's a lot more then just signing someone and Damon would never take a paycut to remain with the Yanks, hence why they went other ways.

Oh and signing Mitre over Halladay never happened. We had to trade for Halladay and we offered Montero, who is arguably the best bat in the minors at 21 years old. We weren't willing to give up more and you will find out why in the upcoming seasons when Brackmanm / Betances / Banuelos and others make their way to the Yankees.

I agree selling name rights will bring additional revenue to Yankees management. They can use that revenue to either improve the product or pay down debt like u suggested Pharmcat.

This is something they should definitely think about that and they could also charge a premium since its the yankees

Your still missing the point, Damon whose agent Scott Boras wanted more money and Cashman was not to budge. Hal and Cash are not going to give guys what they want. They have the over priced circus to play in, the tourists will continue to come. The fans can watch on tv.

Get it now?

Oh and anyone still on board with Gardner after that post season, keep in mind Melky was released by the Braves. Players protected by that order.

Finally, the comparison to Randy Johnson is not a skill set. That's fantasy baseball thinking. More or less an example of guys that the Yanks are enamored with, because they beat the Yanks on a regular basis or tough on them: Randy, AJ, Cliff....NOW do you understand?
