Cliff Lee wouldn't dare beat the team that's going to give him $100 million. :D

Well, the Rangers already used Cliff Lee, meaning their rotation is slightly out of whack. Hence, the Yanks have to take advantage and split on the road. I'm going to guess and say Lee faces the Yanks in Game 2. I still like the Yanks chances and its going to be YAnks in six.

It's the same thing as Minnesota, the Yankees need to win at least one of the first two games and ideally both, giving them, hopefully, two chances to close it out at home with games 4 and 5. The Rangers are an excellent team and really the one team that I didn't want to face in this post season. I'm thinking Yankees in 5. -Jitpal

I believe Cliff Lee would be pitching against Hughes in Game 3. It's possible the Yankees could only face him once in a short series.

Yanks better not think they got a gift by having Lee not pitch until game 3 and get schooled by Wilson who is no joke either. They need to take out Wilson and win game one. Will take the momentum out from under the Rangers and have a game 2 where the Yanks would have a clear advantage pitching wise. Force Lee into a must win situation in game 3 in Yankee Stadium in front of a packed and rabid home crowd.

At this point I think I'd rather use Burnett against Lee in game 3. Gets Burnett done for this round and can have Hughes pitch against their #4.

If it's Hughes-Lee in game 3 I'd give the definite advantage to the Rangers that game, and if Burnett pitches the next game and blows up the Yankees can be down 3-1 very quickly in this series (assuming they split in Texas). I think using Burnett as a hit-or-miss pitcher is better. If he pitches like he's capable of he can keep the Yankees within 2-3 runs and hopefully try to come back on their bullpen. If not and he completely sucks, then he's pretty much used as a sacrificial pitcher which essentially gives the Rangers that game for the sake of having much better pitching match-ups for the rest of the series.

At first, I wanted Cliff Lee but he's 32 and balky back reminds me TOO much of the Yanks pursuit of Randy Johnson. By the time the Yanks signed him, Randy was damaged goods. Cliff Lee might be the same way because he throws arguably too many strikes.

So Hughes is pitching on the road? Are we finally getting off Girardi?

Game 1 CC

Game 2 Hughes

Game 3 Pettitte

Let's roll with it...

CC is going game 1
Hughes is going game 2
Andy in game 3 vs Cliff Lee

That is going to be a great game.

Hughes does have 0.00 ERA in Texas. I'm sure that played into it. I can remember his two starts so well. One was his no-hitter and the other was that 8 inning shutout. -Jitpal

I would recommend to put one of the worst pitchers up against lee, batting will be difficult in that game so you wouldn't want to use your best pitchers because winning that game is risky

I say burnett vs lee, yanks can take that loss but Hughes petite and sabathia have solid chances of winning without having to face Lee

I would go with that strategy too, but it looks like Girardi is going with Pettitte in game 3.

Look tomorrow is not guaranteed, so I don't believe in this philosophy to just send out slop and think that game 4 is an automatic win cause it can blow up in your face.

I'm feeling Yanks in six.
