Is Hanley Ramirez the heir to Jeter's spot?

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Wed Nov 24, 2010 6:27 pm

Unless you've been living on the moon, the NY Yankees have done what I didn't think that they would do, which is paint Derek Jeter a Villain after giving A-Rod another huge contract. Course, that was before he admitted to roids with a suspect hip.

It might sound unthinkable but then I thought to myself...Cashman wouldn't be so diarrhea at the mouth (cause usually Cash says NOTHING) unless they had a contingent plan. That plan is to start importing mercenaries...

THAT mercenary could be Hanley Ramirez. Now, Cashman has always had a hard on for Marlin players. He bit on Carl Pavano. He was always enamored with AJ Burnett...

The Yankees could be trying to force Jeter in a situation that could set them up for getting Ramirez with a 4 year deal.

How do you feel about Ramirez as a Yankee? Do you think he's matured...beyond last season.

I was just thinking about this today. He is a FA next year, and the Yankees will be looking for a new SS, regardless if Jeter signs or not. If Jeter does sign, this will be his last year at SS, and he is gonna be asked to move to the OF. Ramirez is a stud, and the Yankees will definitely be going after him.

ramirez is a stud, but I have seen lack of maturity derail a lot of potentially great careers.. If he is past the immaturity issues, yankees should go after him..

Yeah what's another 7 year 200 Million dollar contract? I don't want Hanley all that much because a) he looks like a headcase b) hes a lackluster defensive player and c) I don't think the middle of the order is where we need help considering we have Tex Cano and ARod now and hopefully Montero later. I"d rather get a relatively cheap light hitting good defensive shortstop like a Jose reyes lite. Someone who can put up a line like 275/350/425 with a positive uzr and 30+ steals a year would be ideal.
