Geezus. You can't blame a team like the Nationals because losing traditions have to overpay in order to get a sniff of talent to sign with them. At the same time, this sets the market.

Remember when I said, the Yanks would have to give that 6th year and push it to 140-160 for Lee? Well, Werth's deal pushed that possibility from 45% to 90%....

I would have thought that they would go the SF Giants route and continue to compliment some vet arms along with their young emerging talent.

Yankees are paying Swisher 1/10th of that over the course of his contract for more production. He must be pissed he isn't a free agent.

This couldn't have worked out better for the Yankees. Now the sox, angels, etc have to battle over carl crawford and their starting bids have to at least be 7 years 130mil. Not quite sure how this affects Lee considering he's a SP and not a position player so it's kinda irrelevant in terms of Lee if you ask me.

Thank you washington.

Yeah, I'm not so sure. Rumor has it Washington is going to be bidding 7 years for Cliff Lee, which as rumors say, the Yankees don't intend on matching. If Cliff Lee follows the money, which is likely, then the Yankees are going to be going hard after Carl Crawford and Crawford is going to get some INSANE contract with the Angels, Tigers, Red Sox and Yankees in the mix. -Jitpal
