Wow, I want Scott Boras as my agent when I need a raise from my boss. Since the Werth deal, this off season has become a joke.

I don't think it's a terrible deal since it's only for 1 year. He is a 10 million/year player, he just didn't play like it this year. With that said he still plays some pretty good defense and produces a lot of HR/RBI's.

It's funny hearing you complain about this deal considering you sided with Jeter about him deserving more years (w/ a pay-raise) after seeing his BA drop 64 points and OBP drop 66 points.

Yea cause by your rationale, he's 32 so we should give him Cliff Lee money.

Don't even COMPARE Carlos Pena to Jeter, I mean seriously that Miami Heat banner says it all...

How many teams has Pena been on since he was a Texas Ranger? Let's see: Texas, Detroit, A's, Detroit, Boston, Tampa. and Chicago and correct me if I am wrong but I thought he had a VERY short stint with the Yankees but was released in 2006 (check me).

Hmm...CAREER .241 hitter

Hmm....Averaging 160 Strikeouts over the last 4 seasons (well it's not Rob Deer territory)

Hmm...ONE Gold Glove in 2008 over 10 years.

Yea, obviously a GREAT signing for the Cubbies, a franchise that hasn't won a WS in over 100 yrs.

Seriously, I hope NONE of you ever get a job in a MLB front office.

It's not the worst move in the world but it's not a good one either. He was with the Yankees right before Boston, I believe. He had a minor league deal and never made it up to the majors. This was before Tex, so his competition would have included guys like Doug (I'm not even going to try and spell his last name), Josh Phelphs, Jason Giambi, and Andy Phillips. I could be off on the years because 2005-2008 just blend together. Back on topic, I think LaRoche was a much better pickup especially at a dollar/production value over Pena. James Loney would be a better trade target as well. -Jitpal
