For example, the Rays have David Price at just under two years of service time, and signed very cheaply through 2012. Given their upcoming payrolls, will they be willing to commit 15-20% of their salary dollars to Price as he approaches $10 million a year as a three-plus player in arbitration in 2013? If that sounds ridiculous, what about trading for Matt Garza, known to be available, less expensive than Price and unable to hit free agency until after 2013? The A's have a wealth of pitching and a lack of hitting; would they part with Brett Anderson -- who may be the next Pettitte -- for Montero? The Marlins have committed a lot of money to Josh Johnson through 2013, and while they have filled their catcher and DH slots, the opportunity to re-experience Miguel Cabrera -- another fair comp for Montero -- would have to be tempting. Similarly, the Giants have their future catcher in Buster Posey and re-signed first baseman Aubrey Huff, but the Yankees might consider pursuing Giants' starter Madison Bumgarner as a more productive use of Montero's value. You could also call the Dodgers, in their current state of flux and lacking anything resembling a catcher, to pry away Clayton Kershaw.

Felix Hernandez and Josh Johnson. I probably wouldn't do it for Price, mainly because I wouldn't want to face Montero 18-19 times a year. I think the main thing with a potential Montero deal is that the pitcher coming back needs to be a legit Ace pitcher on the right side of 30 with no major injury/contract issues. AL and Post season experience helps. -Jitpal

Remember how cheap the Marlins are and how their fan base has been destroyed since Leyland got them their first WS. Josh Johnson because the Marlins will take prospects for ANY player.

With Felix recently being a Cy Young winner, Seattle ain't giving him up for anything...

King Felix
Josh Johnson (if physical was fine)

I'm assuming you want it from people who may have a slight chance of becoming available.

I really don't want to trade him for anything. In any deal for King Felix, the Mariners will ask for too much, and there is no one else out there that is worth giving this guy up for.

That's it...the only two! It'd be epic if we got them to take Romine and a couple of pitching prospects instead...you never know.

Can we throw Joba instead of Betances? I'd try hold onto Banuelos and Betances.

Whenever I read Mets fan Joel Sherman's column, I think to myself, "Wow, is the jewish clown brigade in town again?"

I'm SURE the Yanks have inquired every single opportunity for Felix Hernandez. As soon as Felix got the Cy Young, the Mariners are thinking, "Maybe we can be the SF Giants of the AL?" and the delusions begin.

The rest of the league are trying to use the Yanks like NBA used the Knicks, a whore to dump mid 30 talent with horrible contracts.

This is where the Yanks have to make a commitment towards building a NEW Core of players. Obviously in this forum every one was up in arms over Jeter. Ok, well build a NEW core of leadership. Start with Cano and Hughes...maybe Montero is the NEXT piece?

David Price obviously yes. Hard to find a 6-6" power pitching lefty who already has had (Cy Young like) success (to say the least) pitching in the AL. $10M for his is a bargain for the Yankees. Heck, the way he's pitched against AL East competition, considering his age and stuff, $20M is a bargain.

Kershaw I would definitely consider. Power pitcher with a nasty curve. Not proven like Price (especially in AL) but has potential ace stuff.

Bumgarner? Nah.

Anderson? No way.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees make a surprise big trade before the start of the season. Even though the FO seems to be saying they aren't panicking and that they are confidence to go with what they have, let's be honest, this is the Yankees. The Red Sox make HUGE moves this offseason and the Yankees aren't about to give away this season (which is what they would, in the Yankee Universe POV, be doing so if t hey don't make another move or two).

No I don't hink it won't likely be fore one of the above mentioned guys but I would not be surprised if the Yankees acquire Rothchilds' former protege from the Cubs Carlos Zambrano. He's the most readily available and given his salary (something that the Cubs would like to shed) he won't likely cost much in a trade. He has no.1 stuff and he did have a nice end to last season, pitching extremely well. Normally teams would be loath to take that expensive a gamble but this is the Yankees after all.

Zambrano is a power pitcher and can dominate. Maybe between him and Burnett you can get 30-35 or so nice starts. Worth it.

Between him and Burnett you need to start the Scranton Shuttle and keep shuffling guys that can give you 3-4 innings out the pen on the days Zambrano and Burnett pitch. I certainly wouldn't trade Montero for Zambrano, if that's what anyone is suggesting. -Jitpal

No, I don't see the Yanks making a deal because Seattle wanted the Yanks to include Nova for Lee...and for someone like King Felix they would want the whole Farm.

No, no, not at all (on dealing Montero for him). Not even remotely. If the Yankees are willing to take on his contract (which is sizeable still) it'll probably not cost them anything more than some middling prospect or two that likely would never sniff the majors or, if they do make it, not amount to much. Taking Zambrano's contract is the key return from the Cubbies standpoint.

Curious on Bumgarner, why not? At 21 years old he accomplished something in the playoffs CC and Price couldn't. He shut down a great Rangers lineup and even more impressively he did it in Arlington.

If Montero is as good as some people say he is, I wouldn't trade him for any pitcher except Felix Hernandez.

I want to see how he has developed in the offseason, especially his defense, before discussing Montero trades, particularly since the Yankees have enough other non-pitching prospects to bring back a decent pitcher, e.g. Nunez, Romine and Laird. IMHO Nunez is ready to be an every day major league shortstop.

i think cash is hoping to stand pat till deadline (getting Andy helps), and make a trade for a team who is selling

problem with montero is he is a slow starter, so hopefully people give him some time
