Joba as the #4 Starter?

Trouble in Yankee land when you consider that Cashman thinks bringing in the IR all-star cast offs in hopes of making up for Pettitte's win totals...it no longer matters if Jeter has a rebound year (or anyone for that matter), CC wins another 20 games...because you can't hope to fill two slots and hope to hold back Toronto, Boston, or Tampa...

Time to stop with the Joba rules and let him be what he is....which is probably a 5 inning guy. Why? Because right now, he's the best the Yanks have to fill that slot.

i think there is more to joba than they let on

maybe its the shoulder, or something else

but in a perfect world, there is no reason to not let him try for SP...there has to be something up with him that is not disclosed

I think that ship sailed a long time ago unfortunately. At this point he is a mediocre reliever so I wouldn't even care if they tried him again as a starter, but I just don't see it happening.

I would not be surprised if the Yanks deal him as part of a package to acquire a better, more reliable and very likely more expensive pitcher. Chamberlain still has value in the league and his $1.5 million contract is attractive. I cant see the Yanks relying on Burnett bouncing back and a couple of unknowns for their rotation. For them it would be tantamount to throwing away the season. Had Pettite come back then, yes, they could have lived with everyone else. But now? Not a chance no matter what Cashman says publicly.

Just three seasons ago, Cashman expected the Yanks to rely on Hughes and Ian Kennedy to carry the team...and Yanks missed the playoffs. Think he isn't afraid to do that again with three pitchers?

Joba for Chris Carpenter might be the best...

joba is a stark reminder on the prospects and how few pan out...hopefully cash doesnt overvalue his and makes the trade when needed

Thought I heard on 1050 that Cash said, Joba has to compete to make the team!

The sad thing with Joba is that he did work out, they completely tore him down and destructed him.

Aubrey Huff HR & mock fist pumping tore Joba up...and the Yanks rallied in that game and won. Mo said after the game, "I have no problems with young players being emotional but don't get mad when someone does it back to you."

I wonder who Mo was referring to?

Joba...Lastings Milledge...NOT MLB ball players.

I dont see him being the number 4 starter but you never know he does have the talent, guy just needs to get his head together.

i know it was just 1 inning, but joba looked really good today...he has made a slight adjustment with keeping his hands down instead of at his chest

I would love for him to be our 5th guy.

No, no, no. Haven't we messed up with the kid enough? He actually didn't have a bad year last year, maybe he's just a 7th inning guy - and honestly, I'm fine with that.

He needs to be groomed as our future closer and current setup man. Its obvious the dude cant be a full time starter. He is much more effective as a short inning guy. Hopefully he got his **** together during the offseason.

Joba is a reliever. It took me a little while to realize this and it also took the Yankees too long to realize it. He's wired and built like a reliever. He has the pitches to be a starter but his mental makeup better suites relieving. I hope he hasn't been permanently damaged as a player by the moving around and slight babying by management. It would be a shame to get rid of him now and trade him for peanuts when his value was so high at one point.

BTW Nova has a great approach and is very mature. I believe in him. IMO he has the #4 spot locked up.

Dude no!!!! Hold on ... Hell no!!! Joba will never start again for the yankees... He doesn't have the mental makeup to be a starter, and he will not be a closer either unless Soriano implodes... Joba probably won't be a yankee for much longer, I expect him to be part (piece) of a deal sometime before the trading deadline.
