http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/ ... id=6422592why are players and team members giving quotes for a book? cant they just say no comment and write their own book once they are retired? unnecessary distractions

First, take a book written by Ian O'Connor like a grain a salt. This is NOT Summer of '49 by NPR's David Halberstam. Not in the same class or league.
Second, Tom Verducci and Torre did the SAME thing to the Yankees a few seasons ago.
Third, this is common knowledge. A-rod said three Spring trainings ago that he's not buddies with Jeter anymore.
Fortunately this team is used to it. I don't see that being an issue with A-rod but Connor basically putting it between Jeter and Cashman & the snake Randy Levine. Certainly not the first time a writer has tried to run a player out of Gotham. See Tom Seaver who forced a trade from the Mets.
If there is one guy who can handle the NY media, it's Jeter.

I've been trying to find the video where A-Rod missed that popup against Baltimore in 06 and Jeter looked disgusted. Anybody know where to find this?

This type of non-sense could bring a team closer just as easily as it could bring them apart...and at 35 years old heading towards the end of their careers, I can't imagine this having a negative effect
