NY Yankees (16-9) @ DET Tigers (12-16)

Post#1 » by Marley2Hendrix » Tue May 3, 2011 12:33 am

May 2 Colon & Verlander
May 3 Sabathia & Penny
May 4 Garcia & Scherzer
May 5 Burnett & Porcello

Detroit has had some solid contact against Colon tonight, but so far he's done a great job of preventing any major bleeding and getting some nice K's along the way.

Gardner, Jeter, and Jorge having a nice little comeback effort tonight (although I thought Jeter was out on that first single).

Always like watching the Granderson/Jackson matchup. The scale is currently tipping back toward Granderson after Jackson's early push last season.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

so far depth has been the yankees friend... guys like colon coming in for hughes, and on the bench having guys like jones and chavez who can play is huge.. very huge.. we didn't have that last year and if we did, probably could have beat the rangers....

man colon has been AMAZING

but lets be honest, anything over 100 innings from him this year will be asking too much

Valverde was a welcome sight. That guy was all over the place.

BTW Whipping boy #1: Posada put the Yanks out front 2-0. Whipping boy #2: Jeter had 2 hits for the night.A-rod was 1 for 5. Of course A-Rod will come around but that's not the point...

The point is, in baseball if you fail 7 out of 10 times, you're a hall of famer. Not a game where averages equal nightly totals. It's about streaks.

This Yankee team is about Balance. Not gaudy stats. but since we're on the topic of "Averages." Let's also examine the whipping boy of 2010 Curtis Granderson who is hitting .272 with 2 walks but Austin Jackson is hitting .188 hitless with 3 strikeouts.

I can't see MLB not approaching Colon with a cup to pee in. He is pitching inspired baseball, matching Verlander all the way.

the team is not balanced....there is no true leadoff hitter and no consistent #2 hitter (granderson/swish switching that role)

No, what you want is an All-Star team with guarantees.

Balance is attributed to differential. The Yanks are +39. Outside of the Indians, they are the BEST in the AL. Again, this is a TEAM game. Offense AND defense...BALANCE.

good post... baseball is about streaks...

and LOL.. I agree, if colon pitches this way the whole year, MBL will be testing him for sure... the thing about him is that he is hitting 95 in the 7th inning.... verlander hit 99 in that 6th inning, but he was emptying the tank knowing his night was over.... colon also has nasty movement on that two seamer.....

Hey, I love comeback stories. I really DO hope Colon has an opportunity to revive his career. Same applies to Garcia. I just haven't seen Colon pitch like this in a good 5 years.

guys like martin and granderson are younger bats that we didn't have early on last year.... we just need to do better in situational hitting...

tough loss.. CC pitched 7 innings, just had two inning in which he gave up 2 runs each..

tough loss...

back at it tomorrow..

Ms. Money Penny had a good night...and CC uncharacteristically did not have his best stuff.

Swisher 1 walk .231 avg
Granderson 0-4 .260 avg age 30
Robinson Cano 0-4 age 28
Bret Gardner 1-2 .219 Avg age 27
Teixiera 1-4 .261 Age 31

Posada @age 39 had more hits than any Yankee tonight 2.

That's not a statement, that's baseball....Hope to take 2 out of 3 from the Cats. :)

Numbers don't lie. The only problem is either people are looking at the wrong numbers or not looking deep enough.
