http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/yankeesbl ... DjPDiVrzzKThe Yankees were one of 17 teams in Denver on Thursday night to watch Ubaldo Jimenez pitch.
According to several talent evaluators, they have a better than average chance to acquire the 27-year-old because they have the top-shelf prospects the Rockies are looking for.
In mid-June the Rockies started getting calls on Jimenez and were told they weren’t actively shopping him, but if teams were willing to talk about moving their best prospects the Rockies would listen.
At 44-48 and 8 ½ games behind the NL West-leading Giants, the Rockies are very close to being sellers in a sellers' market as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches.

I'd do Betances + Warren + Romine for Jimenez
I'd even do Nova + Betances + Romine....he is young, durable and has filthy stuff. He started off bad this year but since Mid-May he's been dominant.

cashman needs to decide what to do with montero
hes not getting better in the farm anymore, will only hurt his stock there
so either trade him, or bring him up to add pop to this lineup...one or the other

Betances
Nunez
Heathcott
Nova
Romine
Yea... it will take a lot, but he's worth it.. Under contract for 3 more years, young... elite level pitcher.

cashman once again in love with his prospects and refusing to deal them....thought he wouldve learned after failed haren, lee, etc trades

He wants to make the Yankees into a flagship franchise where they win without the hghest payroll and the only way to do that is just to rely solely on the scouting. Problem is, he's not very good at evaluating talent.

Can't blame Colorado because Jimenez has such a salary friendly contract till 2014. It's also not good timing that Montero's stock seems to be dropping a bit. That's on Cashman for not showcasing him sooner.
But it really comes down to how patient the Yankees are.
If you add Jimenez, you have a ferocious 1-3 with Sabbathia, Jimenez, and Hughes who are good and in their prime (Hughes coming into this own) and that allows Yanks to shift Burnett into the #4 slot. Can always sign a 5th wheel.
But upgrading the #2 slot with a #1 stud is a HUGE boost in the playoffs.

guess its more than that
LOL thats a bit much imo
Yeah..
The problem is the Rockies are asking for three top Yankees pitching prospects -- Manuel Banuelos, Dellin Betances, Ivan Nova -- along with Montero.
Is a bit crazy. But of course they'd start by asking that. I'd be ok with Montero and one of those guys...then other lesser prospects.

yea, that would be a nasty staff, I would not mind parting with one of the pitching prospects and nova along with montero, but that is about all..

His value is so much higher because of his rights, as he is under contract for a while.
He's not worth the price tag at ALL IMO. Look what he's doing in the NL West. 4.08 ERA at 28... Would get slapped around in the AL.
Manny and Dellin should be ready by next year.. I'd rather just keep the youth movement flowing.
CC
Hughes
Colon/Garcia (Stop gaps)
Nova
Manny
Dellin

manny is another year away at least, and even if they are in the majors, they are going to have inning limits (which will put pressure on pen and other starters to go longer)...colon/garcia can fall apart at any time, AJ Burnett is not reliable at all....Im not saying to get Jimenez, but the Yanks SP is too weak to do anything in the POs

Sure his ERA is over 4 but consider since May his ERA is 2.38. He's going to have a strong second half and what pitcher hasn't had a hiccup?

He also has a 2.28 ERA on the road and 5.89 ERA at home. He's also been dominant in June and so far in July.

i will admit NY is in a bind
on 1 hand trying to win now
on the other hand trying to add cheap young talent to balance the old/highly paid players, and building that next young core

There's always the NY pressure cooker factor. So if the Yanks are serious and especially if they start handing out their top prospects they better make sure that Jiminez has the mental makeup for NY so that he doesn't turn into the next Javier Vazquez (the first go around), Jeff Weaver, etc. Talented and highly productive young pitchers prior to coming to NY that simply bombed here (largely on account of the pressure and spotlight) and has never been the same.

i think NY will be punting this year
stand pat at the dealine
probably make the POs but not the WS
i just dont see cash letting montero, dellin, manny go, as they are the next core for the future

Look, as the Yanks core beings to dismantle and age over the next few years, guys like Robertson, Montero, Banuelos, Betances, Hughes, Cano, and Heathcott will have to replace them. It's not a smart move to give away our farm when we will be in dire need of youth in a year or so.
Honestly, another thing I'd really look to do is to move Montero to Right Field or even Third Base if he can handle it. Right Field in Yankee Stadium shouldn't be too big of a problem for him. I mean if we're not going to trade him, why leave him at Catcher, as all that really does is bolster his value. He'd become a better hitter at the plate in right as he wouldn't have to take as big as a tole on his legs behind the plate, and will have a longer/brighter future. Also, can he call a game as good as a Russell Martin? I know sure as hell he can't hold down the plate like him.
The Catcher position has become so weak and hard on these players, that's it's best to just shore it up with a great signal caller and slick fielder. Martin can probably hold down the fort until Sanchez or even Romine are ready. His offense is dicey but look what he has done with this pitching staff. He's still pretty young as well. Can run, field, do it all really.
I think moving Montero to Right Field next year to replace Swisher would be our smartest move possible.
