NYT did an article on Kei Igawa

Don't know how I missed this one. Guess the Sports writers were so bored that they had to grasp straws...It's hard to believe Kei Igawa, Cashman's answer to Dice-K was paid something like over 40M to be a minor league pitcher. I can imagine the look on these minor league players as a limo pulls up with Kei. The guy is a nutcase.

Look, Igawa sucked here and it was obvious, but I always thought that he could be a moderately-successful fifth-starter type for someone pitching in a huge park with good defenders behind him. His breaking stuff is pretty good, and that could cover up for his crap fastball IF he locates it. His problem has always been location and he implies that he's improved there in the article; if I were a random crap team I'd give him a min contract and see how it goes.
He couldn't hack it in NY but a team like the Padres would have been perfect for him. He needs to play in a place with no media spotlight or expectations at all to get a full-scale evaluation.

well if you read that article, that guy refuses to go back to Japan...so I would assume he'll be in the NL out west. In the meantime, Cashman and Levine are covering up the fact that he is dead salary weight. It's also proof that Cashman can't scout worth a damn. He signed Igawa instead of former Yankee Ted Lilly because he didn't want the Yanks nailed with a higher luxury tax rate.

Really though? They couldn't have brought up Igawa over Steve Garrison? That has got to be an awful feeling...and really messed up by Cashman.

I think there's a bit of vindictiveness on both sides at this point. Igawa will continue to resist being dumped on second before his contract expires and Cashman will contine to refuse to do anything other than let him rot. Hopefully what's happened with Igawa doesn't cause the Yanks to shy away from Japanese players in the future.

Exactly. Igawa has no plans of returning to Japan and hopes to join his brother in arms Ian Kennedy or San Diego in a pitcher's park to rejuvenate his career. I mean, to get paid 47M in the minor leagues and get a limo to and from The field is hilarious.

yea, I agree, and I can't hate on him, he seems to really want to pitch and do well in the major leagues and if he continues to work hard, I hope he achieves that success... good luck Kei Igawa..

If I can get paid for basically doing nothing, I'd road trip where ever they want to limo me to every day.
