"No, money is never going to be a factor," Cashman told ESPNewYork.com.

Cashman reiterated his staunch defense of Burnett from a little more than a week ago. However, a week from now, barring injury, the Yankees will have to make a decision about paring their rotation from six pitchers to five, and Burnett is on the bubble.

"We have six guys who can pitch in a pennant race, period," Cashman said. "A.J Burnett is having his typical terrible August. For whatever reason, he can't pitch in August, I don't know why. It is what it is. August is obviously not an effective month for him."

sounds like AJ is the odd man out from the rotation

but still defends him

"I admit without a doubt he has not pitched like a No. 2 and he is not our No. 2, the way he's thrown, without a doubt," Cashman said. "I thought a lot of the stuff was getting well overblown, treating him like he is Oliver Perez. That is irritating stuff and that is what I responded to [a little more than a week ago.]"

he also talks about the rest of the rotation

honestly, cashman should give half his earnings to colon and garcia for keeping their arms and nova for finding that slider....w.out these 3 guys, this team would not be in the PO race....what a lucky break

Never have I listened to a GM that has said a lot and yet, NOTHING at the same time.

Bottom line is, Brian is saying, "If he's a .500 pitcher logging in 200+ innings and MAYBE has 1-2 good playoff performances we'll be happy." Because there is NOTHING left for him to say, Yanks are STUCK with that ugly contract.

Micahel Kay went easy on this guy. He didn't ask the most important question, "Pavano, Igawa, Burnett...what exactly are you looking at when you thought about giving 48-50M respectively?"

Because you can get a .500 pitcher for a lot cheaper right?
