Yanks @ Seattle Sophisticates

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Mon Sep 12, 2011 8:02 am

I've traveled and seen baseball games in at least a dozen cities...Seattle is the ONLY city where I was hissed at for jay walking.

Despite 4 heart breaking defeats in the last 5 games, the Yanks maintain 3.5 game lead for the Sawx who are doing every thing to give the wild card away to Tampa. I might feel comfortable if not for the fact the Yanks face the Mariners' top of the rotation, strong dose of King Felix & Vargas. And the one winnable game is with AJ Burnett going.

The MVP for the coming weeks might be Eric Chavez who has been healthier than A-rod. Amazing.

But the real story is Mariano Rivera....2 saves from Trevor Hoffman. He is the best and greatest reliever to date and the epitome of a true professional. While dangerous Dave Robertson is auditioning to be the heir, we will never forget or dare compare Mariano Rivera.

So who is the set up for Dave Robertson? Soriano? Hehe. ;)

Yanks are hitting Felix hard in the 4th...and taking the lead. 3-1 Yanks.

Yanks catching situation is interesting. Good thing they are stocked at that position right?

Got AJ on the mound for game 2, Yanks offense will have to carry him.

As for Hughes, I did like Al Leiter pointing out that Hughes pitched well especially changing speeds with his breaking pitch but did note that the Yanks were playing an anemic offense. Still a win is a win.

It'll be VERY interesting to see if Tampa overtakes Boston.

The ageless one, Mariano Rivera gets his 600th save and the cornerstone to so many Yankee victories.

K-Rod
Eric Gagne
Papelbon
Zumaya
Fuentes
Rocker

So many names deemed "the next Mariano Rivera" and Mo has outlasted them all.

Ortiz is out with back spasms. I still say Boston limps in cause they have 7 games vs. the O's to end the season. Yanks have Tampa, I believe.

He's a young man...he's learning not to try and win the game by himeself and to take what's there.

Ivan No-joke put in another 7.1 innings. This six man rotation, a mix of youth and veteran is killer combined with the pen.

On the other hand, the offense looks a little winded...

Once again, Sabremetrics doesn't account for life style choices. It doesn't account for big city fears of Carl Pavano. It doesn't account for head cases like Kei Igawa. It doesn't account for guys who beat themselves up like AJ Burnett when a start doesn't go his way. And it doesn't account for a guy like Alex Rodriguez who is soooo narcissist about protecting his image when in reality he never wanted to be one of thee guy BUT he likes the money and the glamor.

I'll be shocked of A-Rod plays in the playoffs. His body is disintegrating before our eyes at 30+M a year and this is WHY the value of Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera cannot be measured.

Play the game the right way. Fight through your limitations and you'll be closer to the HOF than you would taking short cuts for a bunch of privileged fantasy sports clowns.
