CC opts out, do you give him 7 yrs?

We were all united during the first half of the season on giving CC a blank check, do you still feel the same way?

Not sure I would give him 7 yrs despite Red Sox & Nationals certainly going to try and drive the price way up. Also so much criticism with AJ, CC has been mortal last two yrs in the playoffs. Again, not saying he shouldn't be paid well but 7 yrs is a bit much.

Jack Curry on Michael Kay was wondering if the Cliff Lee deal influenced CC's bargaining/negotiation options....I tend to agree that it did.

This is why I am disappointed with Hughes' health. With Nova & Hughes, you have two SOLID starting home grown cogs that you can rely on to compliment an ace. Right now, it's only Nova.

Lots to monitor as the Yanks move forward but one thing is for sure...tired of CC not pitching as he should.

at some point the yanks have to learn their lesson

tell him not to opt out and add one more year on his deal

if he opts out and wants 7 yrs its time to say bye

How many +100 million dollar contracts actually work out?

I'd say Roy Halladay & Miguel Cabrera's contracts are working out just fine....

yeah, out of a group that also includes barry zito, vernon wells, alfonso soriano, carlos lee, jayson werth, and johnan santana. There are just too many unpredictable variables in baseball that it is hard to live up to such a large contract. btw, Roy Halladay doesnt have a +100 million dollar contract.

did roy get 100 mil?

i thought he got 3 yr 60 m with Phils?

CC has lots of mileage and he is heavy and already has knee surgery....offer him 1 more year to his remaining 4, it should make it 5 yrs close to 125.....if thats not enough for him, you have to let him go

you cant saddle yourself with so many 7 yr deals

Yanks can't afford to lose CC though, with the starting rotation already a big question mark. 7 years is risky, but this is the Yankees we're talking about...

Unless they plan on going after Darvish and/or CJ Wilson, they should probably give CC what he wants.

I have a sinking feeling Cashman wouldn't start looking at trading Montero if not for the fact he thinks there is a very good possibility that CC might bolt. He's definitely opting out.

cashman wont include a weight clause

i hope cashman plays hardball, and keeps it at a 5 yr deal

cannot saddle yourself with another 7 yr deal

Am I the only one who thinks that Montero was being showcased? I think that there's a better than likely chance that Montero will be gone in the offseason in a trade for a starter. If so, the Yankee brass had to love what Montero did in the majors (I mean even his ground balls are like lasers). So expect King Felix talk to pick up once again. For the anemic Mariner offense, Montero should do wonders in the middle of their lineup. And him being a LONG WAY away from free agency will help them financially. I would not be surprised if a Montero/Bentances/etc for Hernandez happens regardless of what happens to CC.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the Yanks have talks with other teams about moving Texeira. Having Pujols in the lineup just seems like a match made in Yankee heaven. And the Yankees being the Yankees can offer to include a good sum of cash to move Tex and, as a result, get some primo stuff in return.

I'd expect that they'll probably give CJ Wilson an AJ Burnett like offer and hope for better results than they had with Burnett.

Will be exciting in any case.

As far as CC for 7 years? I don't think so. Best I'd go is one more year after his current deal for $30 million (making it a 5 year $122 million deal...an average of $24.5 million a year).

Yea but again, last two seasons what has crippled the team's pursuit of another WS...not the pitching but aging hitting. The bullpen is so stacked the Yanks can live with 5 innings which is why I was shocked CC was in during game 5.

i agree

just rework it to make 5 yrs 125 mill

if he wants 6 or 7, there has to be a weight clause

NICE! Now the question is, can the Yanks improve the rotation?
