Who's the Yanks #5 in the rotation?

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Sun Jan 15, 2012 10:04 pm

Personally I like the concept of a 6 man rotation in limited sets to rest starters in a much more dangerous AL with the addition of Pujols and maybe even Prince Fielder. But for now, let's go with a rotation of

CC Sabbathia age: 31 lefty

Michael Pineda age: 23 righty

Hiroki Kuroda age: 36 righty

Ivan Nova age: 25 Righty

Nice blend of youth and Experience. A lot of power pitching at the top of the rotation. So let's look at the guys for "tryouts" All right handers

Phil Hughes Age 25

Freddy Garcia Age 36

AJ Burnett Age 35

I think I have to go with Phil Hughes. I think the Yanks need to know if this guy can come back to the 19 game winner he was just a couple seasons ago. We know who Garcia and AJ are, we don't know if Phil is done yet. He could very well be the guy that we imagined as the #2 in the rotation.

Garcia or Hughes if he shows what he was pre 2011.

I'd give it to Garcia at this point. Garcia was great for us last year he's earned the spot. Hughes has to earn it at this point, prove that he's fully healthy.

I think they should consider moving Hughes back into the bullpen or move him in a trade if they can get a nice return (a OF''er or a SS/3B prospect). Finding a taker for Burnett would be great but not sure if that's possible. I think bottom line is that you have to at least move one of Burnett or Hughes. Obviously will depend on how each guy looks but the most reliable one might be Garcia. He's not the pitcher he used to be but he's the most stable and dependable guy out of the 3.

Burnett has two yrs left, which is...meh.

Was thinking move Hughes and Gardner for a multi-tooled left fielder who can y'know be an offensive threat.
