how much do you like Cole Hamels?

hes a FA next year
obviously looking to get paid, id say 20 mill per at least
if you would get him, youd have an amazing rotation with cc, hamels, pineada, nova, manny, betances, etc etc
however NY wants to get underneath the 189 threshold in a couple years...which means that a combination of cano, granderson, swisher will have to go . so what do you do?

The problem is, MLB did a tremendous job with finalizing an extension to the CBA BUT the new luxury tax rules set to go into effect call for 40% tax on the amount over the limit.
This is why, Cashman got tough with Jeter, Posada...why he's desperately trying to lock up young pitching because pitching is a premium.
It's also about making MONEY...Yanks want to overcharge YOU! and then say, we can play with the current rules and pay no tax.

Hamels is not worth 20 mil, for that price, pass.

The biggest reason that the Yanks passed on Darivsh, Jackson, Wilson, etc, etc. and signed Kuroda isn't because they feel Kuroda is better or that they weren't interested in the other guys but because I think they already have this guy pencilled in as a Yankee in 2013.
A lot of Phillie fans seem to believe that Hamels is eyeing the bright lights of Broadway and is already basically gone.
