AJ traded to pirates

Post#1 » by moocow007 » Sat Feb 11, 2012 6:50 am

Appears that there's been several back and forths between the Yanks and the Pirates regarding a trade that would send Burnett (to the NL and net the Yanks either Garrett Jones or an "Ok" prospect (on the level of a Brooks Pounders or Aaron Baker).

hahahahahahahahahaha. That is a joke right? Seriously that is a joke?

i would be willing to pack BJ Burnouts bags, drive him to the airport, hell drive him to Pittsburgh, hell put him on my back and carry him to Pittsburgh in the snow in negative 20 degree weather or 110 degree heat to get him THE HELL OUT OF NY.

You think the Yankees want to pay him 15 million a year to sit in the bullpen and be a relief pitcher? The guy is a nutjob with a million dollar arm and a penny brain. I wouldn't trust him coming out of the pen and walking the park. Even if the Yankees pay 10 million to save 5 million that is a huge plus.

no its not a joke

AJ eats innings, and of the 3 in AJ, garcia, hughes, he gives you the higher chance of good performance in a PO game

there is no point in trading him if you eat a lot of the contract and still have no money to spend

now if they can trade him to clear enough money to sign chavez and damon, then yea im for it

BJ Burnout the last 2 years and going forward is making 16.5 million dollars to have an ERA of 5 plus. It's horrible and nobody cares if he is eating innings. not when he is beyond horrible. Let's just use an argument sake. The Yankees pay the Pirates 10 million each of the next 2 years for them taking BJ Burnout off of our hands. The Yankees are saving 6.5 million per season right there. They apply that 1-2 million of that money on a project pitcher or on a rookie salary. They are saving 5 million and getting the same level of production from a rookie or journeyman.

5 run era with a ton of walks is easy and cheap to find on the open market. There are a ton of pitchers on BJ's level. Only BJ makes 16.5 million.

like I said, if they can save enough money to resign chavez and add a dh like damon, then Im for it...but as far as I know, that is not the case so far....its pointless to give away a guy when you cant use the freed up $ for anything

or if you get a serviceable player back, like CHI did in the zambrano trade, thats not the case either yet

One report has the Yanks possibly landing Nick Kingham (a young right-hander), one of the top 15 propects in the Pirates organization.

Hypothetical scenario. If you owned the Yankees and Knew that you can save money by paying the Pirates 10 million to take 15 million away from you when at replacement value, the Yankees can get a rookie or crappy run of the mill pitcher for 1-2 million. Would you do it?

Yankees can save a couple of million, use that money to sure up the bench, bullpen, dh, whatever and the Steinbrenners can save some money. OF COURSE YOU WOULD DO IT. BJ Burnout is not a relief pitcher, he would suck from that role and keeping him in the rotation is going to be a detriment to Pineda, Betances, Banuelos and Nova.

Something just worries me about sending AJ away. I guess, if anything happens to our youth to shelf them in stints, we have Freddy Garcia but for whatever reason it never quite works out that well to start the season. Hopefully I am wrong and this young dynamic rotation stands tall.

You guys are worrying about a pitcher who would still be a joke on the Orioles. BJ Burnout is a head case and sucks. This is addition via subtraction. You can find any guy in the Yankees double A farm system who can go out and give up 5 runs a game while making 400k.

i dont see the "addition" if NY cant add a damon type dh even after the trade

I guess we should wait to see how it plays out

but like I said, its only worth it if
1) ny clears enough to sign damon and chavez
2) ny gets some1 respectable in return like cubs in Z trade

He was a head case because he was going through a nasty divorce. Most men would be a mess if they loved their wife. Yet, AJ DIDN'T make ANY excuses for his pitching problems.

Guy still made every start. Always bails out the Yanks when CC starts off the season slow.

Yea, his ERA was atrocious in the second half but is anyone pitching to the murderous line ups of Boston and Tampa is going to wear your arm out. But never drew attention to himself when the press was murdering him, took every lump.

No he is not worth his contract. Almost no one is. But AJ is a clubhouse personality the Yanks will miss.

Everything that I have read about a possible AJ deal is with the understanding that the money that they will free up will allow them to resign Chavez and one of the trio of Matsui, Damon or Ibanez. But even if they don't get two of the above players, moving AJ now and saving whatever they can is a risk the Yankees should take. The Yankees have six pitchers now (CC, Pineda, Nova, Hughes, Kuroda, Garcia) who can and will be there five man rotation with one long man spot starter. If they lose a second pitcher to injury during the season then you look into your minor leagues to fill a short term hole or you look to the waiver wire. If its a long term injury to a second starter then maybe you look into trading for a pitcher, but in no case is AJ necessary on this team once Pineda and Kuroda were brought in and we resigned Garcia.
All-Time Draft

PG- Oscar Robertson/Bob Cousy
SG- Earl Monroe/James Harden/Dana Barros
SF- Billy Cunningham/Michael Finley/Chet Walker
PF- Elvin Hayes/Dolph Schayes/Tom Chambers/Danny Manning

I understand that but a bat is MUCH EASIER To find than pitching.

I just think you don't have to make this deal THAT soon. I think you see how Hughes arm, Pineda's velocity, and more importantly Nova's arm looks BEFORE you move AJ...That's all.

Yankees are looking at trading BJ Burnout to the Indians for Hafner. I would make that trade. Hafner while not being the player he was 5 years ago is still far and away better than Matsui, Damon and Ibanez.

Well, the problem with Hafner, we don't know if this guy will break down just by running the bases. He is owed a lot of money...while Pittsburgh can not only give the Yanks enough leverage to sign Damon or Ibanez (who can play OF for 40 games or so) but also can give the Yanks prospects.

This is why you WAIT...and aren't so quick to dump a pitcher, even one such as AJ. YES, he is a .500 pitcher in the AL BUT....in the NL where Pujols and Fielder have jumped to the AL, Braun is PED, there aren't too many good hitters and that makes AJ a 17 game winner...thus, the Yanks have the leverage.
