Vlad The Impaler Wants In

Looks like Vlad Guerrero wants to be a Yankee. Always been a big fan. Hes 37 but still can produce enough to platoon at DH with Jones. If the other options dont pan out im in. Hes also been surprisingly durable...just looked up his stats and was expecting spot duty (200-300 ABs) but hes been 550+ consistently.

Man, if there was ever a guy who could consistently murder Pedro Martinez, it was Vlad Guerraro. His swing was sick, even bad balls out of the strike zone would be pulled for doubles down the line. Unfortunately, it led to a bad back.

I think Pettitte owned Vlad with off speed stuff...and Mo, could ALWAYS come inside on him and get him good (but come on that's Mo).

Vlad had a lot of opportunities to become a Yankee...before ultimately settling on the O's. Yea, the desire but if he so badly wants in...how much he's not willing to sign for 2M plus incentives?

Yea at this point of his career I can see why...I'd like to see him as a Yank but only if his desire is sincere.

For now, Chavez is the higher priority.

Can we get the Vlad of 2004? I still cant believe George went after Sheffield instead of Vlad.

Pretty much the best time to get him was in 2004....

The Yankees should have been in on Fukudome at the bargain price the White Sox got. He would have been just as effective against RHP as the alternatives and he could have given the outfield a lot of days off from fielding.

I really don't want Ibanez. Not only is he a bad hitter at this point, he's also a "takes pride in his defense" type that will harass Girardi for time on the field.

Andruw Jones can mash from the right side. Yankees want someone from the left side.

Makes sense?

I would take Vlad over Ibanez and Damon.

Damon scares me due to him coming off being more concerned about 3000 and Ibanez seems more washed up.

Vlad hit .290 last year with some pop left in his bat.

I would love vlad, just a good professional hitter, and might excel in this line up with all the protection he'll have..

The "righties hit LHP, lefties hit RHP" convention is overstated a lot of the time. It's better to look at RHP vs. LHP splits. Vlad has hit lefties and righties with fairly equal success over the last few seasons. Because he's a better overall hitter, he'd make a better option than Ibanez.

The problem with Vlad is, ANY minute now that back is going to give out. That is due to 10 yrs of sporting that corkscrew swing that can take bad pitches and turn them into doubles, triples, and homers.

I have NO problem IF he accepts whatever the Yanks are willing to offer for a DH. He's a great teammate. I just instantly feel skeptical ANY time a FA says, "I want in on the Yanks!" Yea, suuuure you do for X amount of dollars in ( ).

 Isn't that what we said when we picked Sheffield over him?

Not we. George Steinbrenner...and it wasn't a bad idea at first because Gary finished second only to Vlad in the MVP voting. Vlad finished his MVP season against Boston .167 average but knocked in six RBIs in three games.

What ended the marriage with Sheffield was his mouth...the move to get Abreu when he was hurt said it all so when Cash picked up the option, he shipped his butt to Detroit for 3 pieces of junk.

NOW....I dunno if 13 HRs and 63 RBIs warrants oh he'll have a comeback season with the Yanks as a DH.

EVERY player late in their career wants to come to NY for that ONE LAST contract...but Vlad is not the second coming of Chili Davis. He's not going to take a 1.5M contract. No sir.

Keep in mind he was paid 7.6M with the O's for stats that Derek Jeter nearly duplicated. And tha's your DH?!?!

Jeter was paid 2 times more money last year. What talent did Vlad play with? Brian Roberts is injury plagued, Adam Jones is hit or Miss and Nick Markakis hasn't done anything in years and Weiters is still finding himself.

Oh please, stop with that diarrhea coming out of your mouth. The O's outfield punished Yankee pitching. It's NOT THAT feeble. In fact, you should credit that OF for putting the Red Sox and Tampa away so the Yanks could win the division in Sept.

Jeter can continue to play in the field. vlad cannot. Right now, sorry to say but Jeter is still a valued commodity because SS is no longer as deep as it once was.

And speaking of protection. How was Teixiera? Working on a bunt huh? How was A-rod? How many games did he miss again?

And how many people in this forum threw dirt on Jeter before he finished with .297? Uh-huh thought no.

OFs are always available.

And again, if Vlad so BADLY wanted in on the Yanks...then he'd ask for 2-3M to hit. No, it's not.

Much like the Knicks, it's I want to play for NY...for a King's ransom. THAT IS NOT where Cash/Hal is going...which is why they picked the CAPTAIN to play hardball with. That's a message, it's why Pettitte and Posada retired. It's why Mo is hinting that this is his last season. It's why Jeter is not going to fade away but play 2 seasons and out.

That's fine but don't cry when the Yanks penny pinch...it's been their goal. To have 1-2 high paid players and the rest take a pay cut.

There is a reason why the Orioles lost 93 games last year and scored only 700 runs.
