"I'm going out there for myself but I get NOWHERE unless the team WINS..."
Traditionally the Yankees have always started off slowly in April but this year their schedule doesn't give them any outs...meaning they don't want to be .500 for a month with aging vets that can't afford an injury. Opponents: Rays, O's (who for some reason destroy us in April), Angels, Minnesota, Boston, Texas and Detroit.
Once again, we underestimate "depth" in pitching. Looks like: Sabbathia, Kuroda, Hughes, Garcia, Pettitte...course it wouldn't shock me if Kuroda gets traded to Angels or some West Coast team for a bag of balls. He didn't want to be here. He's an NL pitcher, which means he'll look good early then flop in the second half.
Meanwhile the Rays aren't worried. They have young pitching top to bottom and they will dog the Yanks all season long.
Sabbathia v. Shields: One of these guys are leaving early. Gonna guess CC.
Kuroda v. Price: David wants that CY Young.
Hughes v. Hellickson: Good match up for pair of young arms.
Yanks' bats will be the barometer. Can Alex and Tex return to form? Can Jeter duplicate last season's great finish? Can Granderson carry the team? Can Cano stop padding his stats?
