That's disconcerting...
Again, I am always concerned when a team throws a young pitcher out there and rides his arm. That velocity dip in the second half of last season was no aberration. Certainly not enough to sour me on Pineda.
Think about this kid who wants to prove himself but he's over compensating and THAT is where pitchers can blow out their arm.
Yankee fans have to be VERY patient. Power pitching is a tricky business. A lot of moving parts.
I'd rather have him fresh next season, than have a Feliciano situation.
But this is why I don't trust these deals for young pitchers...the Marlins are criminals for selling damaged goods after the A's...

Because they had the chance to get a young starter coming off a great rookie year, that is cost controlled, and has ace potential. Young cost controlled players with the potential of Pineda don't become available everyday. The Yankees didn't see Montero as a catcher, they couldn't move him to 1B because of Tex, and they wouldn't be able to properly utilize him as a DH because of the aging roster.
There's a reason why every scout and GM said NY got the best of the deal. They were also able to get Campos out of the deal. They guy has been killing it: 3-0 record, 0.56 ERA, 0.56 WHIP, 18 SO (10.1/ 9IP) in 16 innings.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be another bust pitcher for the Yankees. Honestly besides the signing of CC they haven't had much luck going out and getting pitchers. AJ had his moments, but majority of the time he sucked. Kei Igawa sucked. Carl Pavano sucked. Hughes and Joba haven't been handled correctly. Lets just hope this works out and it isn't something major.

The agent requested a second opinion before he even got a first opinion. This is pretty common among a lot of agents as they have built up certain relationships with certain doctors and trust their opinions moreso than others. I don't see that as a red flag at all, the more opinions the better at having the problem diagnosed properly.

Ya that doesn't sound good at all. I'd be shocked if we see him in pinstripes at all this year at this rate....
