Wow. Please tell me this deal does NOT officially go down. If so, my worst fears have been confirmed: The Yanks are resembling the Knicks. A franchise that breeds delusional fans, harping on the past that 90% of the fan base was never alive for.

Vernon Wells is DONE.

I understand what Cashman and Hal want to do. I admire them for their vision. Yes, modern athletes HATE NYC. It's every thing millionaires DON'T want in a city. They don't want to pay taxes. They don't like cold weather. They don't like the middle class. They like MONEY and because of NYC taxes, it forces owners to pay WAAAY over their value to reach the amount they would earn in Florida or Southern states with much less taxes.

THAT more than anything else is killing NY teams. Problem is, ONLY the NFL are they smart enough to have NON-GUARANTEED contracts. Keeping those egos in check.

Once again, GMs who have never been scouts rely too much on secondary information that is often inaccurate. Wells is DONE. Even IF the Angels fit 70% of that monster contract, this guy is not going to give the Yanks what he had in Toronto.

Gotta be a scout at some point to succeed in NYC. Can't rely on secondary employees. This is how stuff like Pineda's delivery contributing to his injury. And his weight issues.

Hell, if they could have brought back Swisher if they were that desperate.

This move is just sad. Ichiro I understood. This I don't.

This is what happens when Cashman sat back, didn't get a deal for Granderson...and now a panic move.

Terrible trade, so I guess all we're getting for Grandy is 2 Draft Picks? Terrible Cashman, I think just about 15 years is long enough, time for Cash-man to go.

Mets get the best pitching prospect in baseball (Zach Wheeler) for a broken down Carlos Beltran and all the Yanks will get is likely a couple picks after the 1st round. Good going.

And speaking about Vernon Maxwell and his $42 million...they could have just given that to any of the numerous latin america FA outfielders (Cespedes, Soler, Puig, etc) all of whom look legit and are still getting better instead of fat old Vernon Wells.

the thing is im totally ok with a rebuild, they shouldve traded phil, cano, swish, etc and just totally restock the farm system....they didnt do that

they couldve tried to sign foreign players to reasonable deals, didnt do that

their farm system is average

its a systemic failure on all levels

this team reminds me of the isiah knicks

Lets just hope the "prospect" or "prospects" they are rumored to be sending to the Angels are nothing. If they give up any of their top 5 prospects at any position they should be shot.

^ Wait, we're actually trading prospects for Wells too? I thought it was just a cap space dump by the Angels nothing going back, is that not allowed?.....someone really needs to fire Cashman, this is asinine, no matter who the prospect.

Yeah prospects but luckily doesn't look like good prospects.

Also...don't know how true it is...but apparently Vernon Wells has always wanted to be a Yankee and that his dad has been a huge Yankee fan all his life. Was actually a funny blurb in the post about it. The dad apparently commended, after the trade, that that means his time is up because his two biggest wishes for his son was to make the majors and play for the Yankees...lol. At least he has a funny dad. Wells also apparently has been trying to shorten his swing to make it quicker and attributed that to why he was hitting so poorly the last 2 years (he was trying to swing for the fences too much). He's hoping that with a shorter swing he'll make more contact and let the home runs come as it comes.

Yanks will only be paying him $2 million next year so that keeps them in line with their $189 million mandate.

Interesting, so 11 mill for this season, still dont like the trade and writing on the wall is clearly there for Curtis, hopefully Cashman figures out how to get something more then 2 DP's for him.

Yep. Should have dealt him even earlier.

Absolutely should have dealt Granderson sooner. Cash was thinking, maybe he'll raise his stock. Well NOW, Granderson can take his time coming back...and make it HARDER for Cash to get anything for him.

Yanks, seriously...get a GM who has been a scout.

^ yup, last June was the time to cash in but bc of Gardners injury it just wasnt really viable. I'd bet if Brett hadn't gotten hurt we might have seen Granderson traded mid-yr, Cash has always done a decent job with trades, at least thats been the viewpoint when they occured.

This is what happens when you have no farm system. Have to rely on has been's.
