Random Thoughts from the Cheap Seats
While at the game today, I thought about the "Rotation of the Future" Cashman boasted: Ian Kennedy, Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes...in an effort to CURB the Yanks spending on FA.
Despite his introduction of a pumped up fireballer out of the pen. Well Joba Chamberlain age 27 never worked out as a starter and last couple seasons makes me wonder how much longer he'll pitch as a Yankee. Joba has an ERA 9+ 4 Ks.
In 2010, Phil Hughes age 26 finally healthy went 18-8 ERA 4.19 and in 2012 16-13 ERA 4.23. But his best was in 2009 as the set up man for Mariano Rivera. He is 0-2 ERA 10+
In 2011, Ian Kennedy age 28, came out of nowhere as a D-Back going 21-4 ERA 2.88. Last year he was 15-12 ERA 4.02 and he's 1-0 in 2 starts with a 4+ ERA.
I'm not saying/blaming Cashman for not trading these kids to another team to get someone like Johan Santana but in keeping with the concept "lowering the payroll" why didn't he trade these chips for one BETTER chip. The Yankees don't have to give up their best prospects for a star or a good player...give up prospects for an even BETTER prospect or to move up in the draft...
Once again, don't trust a lawyer to be the GM...get someone who knows how to scout.
If you don't believe me, take a look at how the Mets literally RIPPED OFF the Blue Jays.

Yankees farm system has sucked complete balls since Gene Michael left.

Maybe off the bench to give RF Ichiro a rest and/or DH.

Re: Random Thoughts from the Cheap Seats
Thats a fair thought, but do we really need him with Grandy's return not too far away, we have decent depth in the OF.
Abreau hasn't been very good for a while now either.

It is as I feared, Derek Jeter out till the All-Star break...I wonder, what is running through Cashman's mind, potential candidates/scenarios to replace Jeter.

That's bull. The Yanks have had some top talent, but they've since traded them away for other pieces, like Curtis Granderson; who by the way was a key part of the last championship.
The point is to win championships, and the dynasty we had in the late 90s is simply not realistic. We won recently, and considering it's the Yankees and the budget and support is so magnificent, it won't be long before it happens again.

Re: Random Thoughts from the Cheap Seats
Lots of talk that the Yankees might scrap the 189M plan. I average between 25-30 home games a season. I buy plans every other year.
This was the FIRST time EVER the NY Yankees reached out to me by phone with the slogan, "I see you've been to quite a few games, we're wondering if you're interested in saving money..."
Translation: the line up involving Youk, Overbay, Wells, Francisco isn't helping to draw in fans. Neither is the team's "so-so" start.
Players with their agents right now are asking themselves, "Waitaminute, a franchise worth 3 BILLION...is trying to low ball my salary?"
Again, the Yanks wanted to play TOUGH with Jeter for a reason but GM Brian "Pete Campbell" Cashman, President Randy "the weasel" Levine, and owner Hal "Bean Counter" Steinbrenner wanted to increase their profits...
BUT like the Knicks, they can't draft well...therefore, the Yanks constantly have to overpay for pitching, one of the most precious commodities on MLB market....
At the end of the day, NO WAY the Yanks can afford to have attendance drop to more than 65% capacity with the $$$$$ they dole out every year to rebuild a "cheaper winning brand."
Your move, Hal & Cash!

Re: Random Thoughts from the Cheap Seats
^I really hope they don't scrap the 189 mill plan, it would be stupid to do so. Why tax yourself at higher level then you have too? Just doesn't make sense.
There aren't any good FA's available in the coming years so to spend for the sake of spending will just continue to keep the Yankees in a class over of too expensive and overpaid players, so once I would like to see shrewed developement and then spend to acquire assets when the pieces to win are there.
While the current team isnt drawing the nightly attendance the games are still "sold out" and will be for the foreseeable future, just because this is a down year (and next will be too) doesn't mean another overreation is neccessary.
Also, trying to justify the worth of the team on why the Yanks should overpay FA's is one of the most asinine things I've ever heard. If players want more to come to NY, thats fine, but a bad deal is a bad deal, and the Yankees shouldnt be expected to make them just because they're the Yankees.
Cano is a perfect example, the Yanks are negotiating with him based around David Wright contract numbers, while Cano now with his JayZ partnership thinks he's worth Arod money. Cashman should be trading him now bc Cano isn't even close to being that valuable, hes considerably more similar to Wright.
Hopefully, Hal, Cashman, and Levine stick to their guns and rebuild a winner from the bottom (not that I expect this to happen, Cashman needs to go, and Gene Michael or someone like him needs to return, maybe Hal should sell in reality).

Can't trade the best 2B in baseball when the prospects and available FA at 2B are weak...Not to mention, we know Cash can't draft.

Mariano Rivera 11 for 11 is thinking, "Soriano who was going to be missed?"

Re: Random Thoughts from the Cheap Seats
Don't like this idea of putting Granderson in LF. Gardner has a weak ass arm. Watched him earlier at the Stadium making throws. Just ugly. Keep Wells in LF, Granderson CF, and Ichiro in RF. Nice blend of speed and strength in the outfield. Keep Gardner as the 4th filling in to give the other guys a rest. What's so precious about Brett?
A-rod is ahead of schedule? Yea, right. Same thing said about Tex. Seeing is believing.

Re: Random Thoughts from the Cheap Seats
I don't think Grandersons arm is any better then Gardner's and Gardner covers way more ground while also judging and playing flyballs much better, hes just better defensively in all manners imo. I know we need Grandersons bat, but to me Ichiro is the weak link currently and who knows if Wells can sustain this play. Gardner has also been better then Ichiro batting wise as well. Wheres the logic behind sitting Brett?
I'll believe Arod and Tex to when I see them, but I hope they arent rushing back, I want them 100% healthy and not before otherwise their nagging injuries will just pop back up.
