LA Dodgers (29-39) @ New York (38-31): Relevant?

Once upon a time, Dodgers/Yanks was something special. From their start in Brooklyn to the Koufax era to Lasorda. Last time the Dodgers won the World Series was 1994 during the shortened season. In nearly 18 seasons, the Dodgers haven't sniffed the World Series while the Yankees have won 5 in 6 trips.
Today, both clubs are headed in uncharted territory.
The Dodgers made a splash under Magic Johnson and spent money like there's no tomorrow. Guess what, none of those moves have paid off. They're in last wondering what happened?
Yankees continue to be plagued by injuries and one wonders what Cashman is going do with so many dead weight salaries preventing the Yankees from upgrading key positions. Still the depleted Yanks are only 2 losses more from first.
Both of these clubs need some wins desperately. For the nostalgia!
