Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez has agreed to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies, a source told ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas.

According to a Yahoo! Sports report, Gonzalez agreed to a six-year deal that could be worth $60 million, the richest contract ever for an international player.

That's ok they'll make up for it by signing someone for half that. Who cares if that someone will be over the hill and likely get injured putting on his uniform.

Ok, the issue here is...are the Yanks signing cheaper, more affordable guys just to be competitive? What does that do other than deceive the paying customer that they're closer to a WS?

Think Cashman is fooling himself looking at the SF Giants who had a rotation much younger than the Yankees for the most part and in a division that pales in comparison to the offense of the AL East.

If you're going to control costs, it's smarter investing in a hungry import than a Cliff Lee or anyone over 30 looking for a big payload.
