Detroit Tigers (69-46) @ New York (58-57): Filing Bankruptcy

Despite all of Detroit's woes, I think it's time for the Yankees to file for bankruptcy of talent.

That B.S. trade in hope of a second half rally to snag second wild card and recover the millions lost in declining ratings, ticket sales was folly. Worry about next season when not a lot on this team chances. There are not a lot of top of the line free agents coming out any time soon.

The Yankees and Brian Cashman are at odds when it comes to two things:

1. Mission Statement: Win a World Series. That means luring constant FAs to fill the stadium. You cannot charge top dollar for a crappy baseball team in a billion dollar stadium. At old Yankee stadium, you could get away with that. The new Yankee stadium costs a lot of money to run. It's an amusement park for non-baseball fans.

2. Yankees do NOT negotiate long term deals in the middle of a current contract. Rule being, you earn your next contract based on the performance of the last year. Cashman tried to go against this tradition, attempting to re-sign Cano before the season began, which Boras just laughed at him. With Cano tops in every Yankee category, he is in a name your price position.

Can the Yankees win a WS with a middle payroll team (still overcharging the fans)?

First, one of Cashman's pitching projects: Hughes, Joba, Kennedy, Pavano, Igawa, Pineda have to actually step in and take command to validate his Farm or trades.

The last Yankee pitching prospect to do his thing? Andy Pettitte. Could Ivan Nova be that next guy or will he be packaged with Gardner and/or Cano for a vital prospect? I doubt it. Besides I do not trust Cashman's eye.

Game 1: Great game. Is it safe to say since Nova's stint on the DL, he has been good on the mound? Little concerned about the 8 hits. Once again, the big name FAs came up short: A-Rod, Soriano nada. Cano and Gardner get it done despite Mo's shaky performance.

Game 2: Cashman's prize pupil of the future Phil Hughes can't get that four seamer not to stay belt high. Tattooed again.

Game 3: Verlander vs Pettitte: Can Andy give us ONE more memory beyond Jeter's first pitch HR off the DL? We'll see.

Andy is not the pitcher he once was (no one is to be honest) but how he was able to get himself out of trouble in the first was vintage Pettitte.

Don't look now but Alex is playing a big role getting to Verlander who is having an off season. Soriano adds a single shot.

Could this offense be finally gelling? Is it too little too late?

Old age claims everyone, including Rivera. Looks like it's over.

And that's that, Mo is done.

Mo gets the win, the Tigers can't get out of NY fast enough. Yanks take the series 2-1.
