Yeah, but when you're the Yankees, it's "a mere bag of shells" as Ralph Kramden once said. So this pretty much guarantees that Choo will get over $100M.

Agreed! However, IF HE STAYS HEALTHY, that kid can do it all, he's a five tool player who goes about his job the right way and will not create waves in the dugout. Don't mind the salary but wish it was for 5 yrs max. Time will tell???

Cashman has no idea what he's doing.

I don't know.. you need a lead off hitter to get an offense going and a guy who slaps at the ball like a women's (no offense to any women out there) softball player doesn't get it done.. I'm talking about Brett Gardner.

That's a lot of money to invest in someone that you're hoping is going to stay healthy.

Cashman truly has no idea what he's doing.

Obviously it is a bad contract, but some are saying this:

@RobertMurrayMLB 3h

Source: Many within the #Yankees organization unhappy about the Jacoby Ellsbury deal.

Which makes you believe this was not a Cashman signing. If the Yanks ignore 189, and go nuts with trades/signings, it won't matter. The deal is bad either way, but if they don't do much now, it will be really bad. At this point, you have to hope they go nuts...they will pay for it on the backend, but also would build a WS contender/winner.
