Do you think the Yanks made enough moves for the Playoffs?
Pretty straight forward, the spending spree...is it enough to get back to Second season?

If they end up signing Tanaka, then yes.

Even with Tanaka I'm not sure they make it unless everything breaks the right way for them ala the redsox this year.

I hope they get Tanaka (but doubt it) but he pushes them to like 85 wins. Still not making it.

Re: Do you think the Yanks made enough moves for the Playoff
Tanaka (if they even sign him) will have to be better than Darvish for them to have a good shot at the playoffs. They still need to add amother two top notch relievers or Nova, Sabbathia and Kuroda will have jello arms come August....or tthey'll be so far out of it that it won't matter. Not really sure what Cashman is waiting for as far as getting bullpen help. Whether they sign Kuroda or not doesn't change the fact that you can't possibly expect David Robertson to anchor a weak and thin bullpen and expect to do anything. And they are goingto do the same thing with Gardner like the do with just about every one of their productive major leaguers, hold onto him for too long until his value is toast or let him walk and end up with nothing but a compensation pick that tthey'll just screw up on.

That's a total Melo move. Hits a hard shot. Gives a stupid foul, nullifying the basket's gain and puts him closer to fouling out.

the sad part is tanaka is NOT better than Darvish and will cost twice as much in salary to get
this FO blows

Totally agree here. And it's sad. Yankees have woken up too late (and not completely) to the fact that they are now "Boston" and the Dodgers are the "Yankees", meaning, the Yankees are team with deep pockets, but no longer THE team with really deep pockets and have been clearly superseded by the Dodgers. Which means, like the Bosox, they will have to combine spending WITH shrewd baseball decisions, something I'm not sold on.
Even getting Tanaka (far from a given), I still consider this a transitional year, as was last year, and honestly probably the year after.
I'll give the Yankees props (sort of) for not going long term on Cano, but that wasn't a "short" contract that Ellsbury got. I think the line up lacks power, especially from the corners if Tex doesn't come back (honestly, who really thinks he will? I don't).
Anyway, we know what the answer is. The farm system needs a huge upgrade so the Yankees will have the ablity to make trades or, god forbid, produce a major league position player or like, a #3 starter for crissakes.
They will not be able to get every big pitcher that comes along and face it, they'll need another 2 pitcher signings over the next 2-3 years to replace Kuroda and Sabbathia and they'd be damn lucky to get a guy like Price as a FA (if he even hits...doubtful)
Maybe the Yanks should even consider Jimenez for depth in the rotation, as right now their top two starters are what, 33 and 39? Only CC is looking like an old 33.

That's why I didn't like the Yankees front office adding Soriano and some additional cast offs, hoping for some playoff $$$$. They had the PERFECT opportunity: A-rod, Jeter, Granderson, Tex out with injuries...to tank and get a TOP draft pick that they could develop as a center piece. NO. They had to load up on the Lyle Overbays of the world.
Now, they've got high expectations to come out with this completely rebuilt team on hired guns.
I think Tanaka will be fine. Kuroda, Tanaka, CC front line rotation could work BUT...the key is Pineda. Can he work a season? Or is he the second coming of Carl Pavano?

The yankees were 53-47 before they added soriano. They were never that bad to get a top pick.

Soriano did more for us offensively once we aquired him then Cano did, if we hadn't gotten Soriano our 2nd half of the season would have been dismal.

how many wins can you say attributed to soriano? The yankees finished the season 15th in the league with a record of 85-77. They would need need 8 less wins to move up two slots in the draft. 10 less wins to move up 4 slots. To get a top ten pick they would have to play worse than the houston astros for the remainder of the season.

If I had to guess he probably only caused a 5-10 game swing; I'm just saying I agree that the Yanks faked hope last yr with the acquisition of washed up big name players when they could have played lesser scrubs and gotten a better pick. Granted Cash-man probably blows it so it doesn't matter anyways.
