Pavano: How Will He Fair?

First off, just want to say how awesome it is there are finally forums for each sport. Been waiting for this for a while.

Anyway just wanted to gague you guys on how Pavano will do tomorrow. Personally I think he'll pitch decently but will look really good against the Rays, though I don't think they're a team that might have to be taken seriously this year. They have a solid lineup, and they are quick. Pavano has got to make sure he doesn't walk too many of them or he'll be dealing with loads of problems.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

I think he'll do alright. 2 runs on 7 hits in...let's throw out 6 1/3rd innings.

However, I call injury to his leg by his 4th start.

I'm predicting a 5.1IP with 6 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs. Maybe 4 strikeouts with Pavano getting a no decision. -Jitpal

It's not like he's facing a crap Tampa lineup. It's got real talent on it. He'll face this:

LF - Crawford
SS - Zobrist
DH - Baldelli
1B - Wigginton
RF - Young
3B - Iwamura
C - Navarro
CF -Dukes
2B - Upton

I am trying to be positive but I have visions of a 2 innning disaster. This guy has just not given me any reason to believe in his ability to do anything right.

Pavano really needs to earn the trust of the managers and the other players in pinstripes as well. He needs to show us his stuff for his 18-8 year in 2004 with his 3.00 ERA. Lets see what he can do, today is his big day.

I htought he pitched ok, erros didn't help his cause. Not bad for our 5th starter.

he definitly had a solid outing, he just got tired in the 5th inning. we all have to remember that he hasnt pitched since 2005. I think he will be a solid contributor to the rotation and I think he'll get 180-200 innings in.

He's like Wang. He's a sinkerball pitcher. He creates groundball outs.

When he's on, he can't be stopped.

Was probably a lot of adrenaline flowing. Mix that in with not having really facing a major league team when it counts makes it really hard to get excited or depressed about his first outing. The next few games he pitches will be crucial if for no one else but for his own psyche. He's got very good stuff but so do a lot of guys that just could'nt hack it here.
