Just heard it on the Michael Kay show. Phil Hughes is coming up and will start on thursday against the Jays. -Jitpal

Beat me to it. I gotta try to trade in my rainout tickets to this game on Thursday. Hopefully, Hughes responds well at the next level.

It's about time for the Phil Hughes show to start. He's their best starter.

We don't appreciate the disrespect.
Phil might be our best starter down the road, but we have three very good starters in Mussina, Wang and Pettitte who might be just as good as Hughes when he first comes up.

That's nice, but it's still true. He's probably the best pitcher in the AL East right now assuming Roy Halladay gets injured in a couple weeks.

Im actually surprised to see hughes so early in the season, especially we have wang and karsten back and mussina soon.

For those who don't know about Phil Hughes
6'5 235 pound right hander
profiles as an innings eater down the line (huge legs, calves, lower body)
great fastball (explodes out of the hand) in the 92-94 mph range
he can get the fastball up to about 95-96 occasionally
devestating curveball - 12-6 break... a very very good strikeout pitch
outstanding command - think Curt Schilling, command is calling card
developing changeup - potential to be an above average pitch
As for comparisions, when I saw him, he reminded me of Mark Prior. You can see some Curt Schilling in him too.
Has the potential to be a bonafide shutdown ace in the mold of Oswalt, that's why we are so excited about him.

It comes down to one thing...the organization wouldn't even CONSIDER bringing him up this early in the season if they weren't 100% he was ready. If they didn't care about that then he would've been brought up before Wright or Karstens. Obviously his changeup will need to continue to develop, but he was able to dominate with it his last start, so I guess that convinced the organization that it is go time.

Do you really think so? Or do you think they will be on the organizations ass for hiring a new strength coach who cant keep pitchers hamstring muscles attached. Or on the organizations ass for rushing a 20 year old KID to the majors?

Thats a pretty strong starting 5 if Clemens decides to come back next month. Hell even from June on, this rotation will make up for the hell that has been our April

How do you think hughes will do against a strong bluejay lineup. realistically i see him having problems thrusday. Hopefully we still win but Phil will have a tough night, you have to remember how young he is. Hopefully they keep him in the rotation because he can definitly help us.
