Hey blueNorange... what did I say about John Maine?

I hope nobody here even entertains the idea of making a trade scenario where we get John Maine..

This guy would just be an average pitcher in the AL... a 5th starter... he's got a good fastball and horrible secondary stuff. And he's got bad command to boot.

It just shows you how bad the NL is when John Maine is considered an ace.

he doesn't use his slider if he doesn't hit the low spots w/ his fastball he can definitely get rocked.

Why won't he pitch better his next start? He just didn't have his stuff tonight.

Never said he was. I'm expecting an ERA around the high 3's or low 4's. Nobody said he was going to have a 2.70 ERA. Maybe you based it on how much Met fans hyped him. But wouldn't you be excited if you had a young pitcher dominating? I'm sure your drooling over Clippard right now..

I don't expect domination out of Clippard when the season is said and done. Mets fans expect domination from Maine, which is unrealistic.

I expect a ERA in the 4.00-4.30 range with Clippard.

Well in fairness to Maine, his control has been waaaaaay off his past 3 starts. This led to him grooving a lot of those pitches tonight which were tattooed. Sheeeeet he is going against an allstar lineup that won't swing at crap. Ehhh it didn't matter anyway, he was soooo wild that even the Royals would have bombed his ass tonight. Not taking anything away from the Yankees, they deserve to win the game. Anyway the real story was Flipper, he pitched great. Maybe next time someone will inform Joe who his starter is so he doesn't sound like a fool on the radio.

The thing with Maine's fastball is that if he's spotting it well, he doesn't need a great secondary pitch. Hitters can know it's coming and swing right through it because he has great late movement and can also vary his speed well. He'll be OK. I expect 14-16 wins and a 4.00 ERA out of him which isn't bad for a 25 year-old coming out of that Baltimore organization. Peterson will have him in #2 form in another year or two. These haters that say he's "garbage" need to take off the Yankee lenses.

He'd be garbage in the AL.. he'd be a 5th starter. I'm glad he's in the NL and he's succeeding, though. Good for him... he seems like he a nice guy.

You're basing that off one start and the fact that he happens to be a Met. How many times have you seen him pitch outside of Baltimore? Rick Peterson, the best pitching coach in the ML IMO, is still working on him. So far he's got a ++ fatsball, a mediocre changeup and a slider that is still under construction...

And by the way, you still haven't answered my question about him from the other thread

That's because over there, their definition of trolling is 'a fan of another team posting on our board regardless of what they say.' This is a FORUM, a place where discussions and yes, even arguments take place. Just like they should. People need to lighten up from time to time.
