Quick ? on Tabata

Is he a blue-chipper thats totally untouchable, a la Hughes?
Or could he be moved for some MLB help? If the A's rebuild, and I'm hoping they do, would Rich Harden + Duchscher + and a hitter be good enough for him? Just trying to gauge his value...

He is in High A Tampa, but yes I would consider him an untouchable ala Hughes. I'd personally like to wait until he performs in AA Trenton to call him untouchable, but he's the best position prospect we have by far.
I do not think that Brian Cashman would do that trade. A proven healthy Rich Harden - probably. But an often injured Rich Harden? No.

Tabata is untouchable, Cashman will not entertain offers for him. Last season when Tabata was only in Charleston, Cashman got calls about him and turned everybody down immediately. Not only is he our best position prospect right now by a landslide, but he is our best one in quite some time (possibly since JETER). He has a chance to be the next in line of great Yankee centerfielders.

they compare Tabata's hitting to Manny Ramirez and even said when they signed him they saw his skill and resembled it to young Reggie Jackson
P.S. and that means no Tabata goes nowhere he goes I'd call for Cashman's firing the next minute.

as long as Cashman makes the decisions, Tabata ain't going nowhere.

Honestly, it really depends on for whom. I don't think anyone is untoucheable in the right deal. That said, it would have to be a lot and I'd imagine for an everyday player considering how thin the Yankees are in the minors in everyday players compared to pitchers.

Obviously I'd trade Tabata for Cabrera or Santana, but Dontrelle Willis? Give me a break. He won't be good in the AL and he simply isn't worth a top flight prospect.

How is Tabata's hitting anything like Manny's was? He has shown virtually no power (.363 SLG%) and while that is usually the last thing to develop; Manny had it even when he was in the minors and I don't see Tabata gaining anywhere near THAT much power. I'm sure that Tabata being a year younger than Manny was plays a factor in Manny showing so much more power in the minors, but you'd think Tabata would post a better SLG% than .363 if he was the next Manny regardless of his age.
By the way, I know you aren't the one making this comparison up as I've heard it before as well- just trying to see if any of you guys who have followed him much more closely than I have followed him have any insight on exactly why he is compared to Manny.

He gets compared to Manny because if you've ever seen his swing, it looks very much like Manny's.
I do not think that he'll have Manny's power. However, Tabata is only 18 right now, so you can't expect him to post .600 slugging numbers. He is still growing into his body.
Furthermore, the league he is playing in, the Florida State League, has always restricted power numbers. Look at Miguel Cabrera's age 19 season in High A in the Florida State League. He had a .420 SLG. Did you think that his power was in question when he posted those slugging numbers? I realize Tabata's slugging is at .360, but as the year goes on, I expect him to hit for more power. Tabata has only had 175 at-bats, while Miguel Cabrera had 400 at-bats when he posted a .420 SLG. Give Tabata some time. Also, Tabata is a year younger than Miguel Cabrera when he attempted High A+.
He's also hitting for a better average than Miguel Cabrera ever did in the minors.

first of all posters who know nothing about Tabata don't come here and make stupid analyzations, Tabata gets compared to Manny because he has the tools, relaxed hands ,waits for the last minute to put the swing on the ball drives it to the gaps and RF, What is Jose Tabata's problem you ask ?
He drives the ball to RF too much. Every scout that watchs him and says he has no power it's pure garbage, Gene Micheal and Luis Sojo put it simple he's not pulling the ball he's a guy that believes in spraying the ball, people believe once Tabata starts pulling on the ball his numbers and prospect status will grow. How about that a 19 yr. old who's one fault is he's not pulling the ball, I'd take that any day and that type of natural talent is why he was compared and is still getting comparisons to Manny Ramirez and Derek Jeter only thing is he's a better fielder than Manny ever was.

NYKnStill, he has one more fault. There was some concern over his diet. I remember some article talking about how he loves American fast food. I don't know if that was fixed though. -Jitpal

Ok then. Looks like there is nothing to worry about. I'd be shocked if he wasn't here opening day of the new stadium. Absolutely shocked. -Jitpal

He really just needs to stay healthy. I think he'll be fine if he stays healthy. The power will come.

Find me 18 year olds with power. Some guys don't develop power until they are 23 or 25, give Tabata a break. His stance, his swing, his approach, his bat speed, and nearly everything else is an exact replica of Manny. And it isn't an accident either, he idolized Manny. His numbers will come later, although I don't see him as a 40 HR guy as some do.

They had him on a program before games last season to keep his weight down, but there have been no concerns what so ever this season.

I hope he idolized Manny, past tense. I really hope he still doesnt idolize Manny. They way that guy plays the game of baseball is a disgrace. His approach to the game makes me sick.
