Official 2007 Yankees Draft Thread

With the draft tomorrow, we can use this thread to talk about all the things going on and what not. Grabbed this from Peter Abraham's blog:
If I had to guess, and this is a total guess, the Yankees would be happy if University of Florida first baseman Matt LaPorta if he fell to them. But there are so many pitchers who could fall to them at 30 including Connecticut high school stud Matt Harvey.

Continue the draft talk here. -Jitpal

Word is that Rick Porcello, the number 2 prospect in the draft, wants Beckett type money ($10 million+) and the Royals (the 2nd pick) aren't going to give it to him.

There aren't many teams who are going to want to pony up that kind of money, so it's possible that he could fall down. I think there is a slight slight slight chance that he falls down to us, but I severely doubt it. The Tigers and Dodgers have always showed the willingness to spend lots of money in the draft, and they pick 20 and 27.

We pick 30.

Yeah, if he is that good I doubt he drops all the way. As last offseason showed, a lot of teams are willing to spend on mediocre pitching. The market for good, young pitching could be through the roof. -Jitpal

There aren't many teams who are going to spend that type of money ($10 million) on the draft by itself, let alone on one draftee.

If the Royals don't sign Porcello, than that leaves the following big market teams who have the pockets to sign him

Dodgers
Angels
Red Sox
Mets
Tigers
Yankees

Angels, Red Sox and Mets don't have picks in the first round. That being said, I don't think he slips past the Dodgers.

Andrew Brackman, RHP, North Carolina State - Brackman is 6′9 to 6′11″ depending on who you ask. He tops out at 97-98 mph, though sits at 93-95 on a regular day, with a spike curveball and changeup. He

and a question mark above his head about whether he is going to need TJ surgery or not.

Read it somewhere on NYYFans.com, nothing confirmed just a little rumor floating around. I trust the Yankees will do their due dillegence with this.

30 minutes now. Pretty excited. Anyone know how long it takes in between picks? Is it short like the NBA or long like the NFL? -Jitpal
