Ken Rosental writes that the Yankees should trade Hughes for Texiera straight up, what do you guys think?

# The Yankees will not trade right-hander Phil Hughes, not even for Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira.

# The Rangers will not trade Mark Teixeira to the Yankees unless they get Phil Hughes.

Please.

The Yankees are understandably reluctant to move Hughes, who was eight outs away from a no-hitter in his second major-league start.

But no player is untouchable, especially not an unproven pitching prospect, talented though he might be.

Likewise, no prospect is so valuable that a deal can not be completed without him.

If the Rangers trade Teixeira, they will need to involve the Yankees, whose needs and resources make them an ideal match.

The Rangers' plan should be to hold out for Hughes, then accept other prospects from the Yankees' improved farm system, if necessary.

The Yankees, in turn, should demand one of the Rangers' veteran relievers and perhaps a lower-level pitching prospect in any deal for Hughes.

One rival GM projects Hughes as only a No. 3 or No. 4 starter, saying, "I'm not as high as the hype."

Cashman won't do it. He shouldn't do it. A good 1B is far easier to get than a good starting pitcher. Let alone a future ace. If they don't want to deal him to us normally, that's cool, we can sign him after next year and the Rangers will get nothing. -Jitpal

That is all any human being with a brain can do to the idea of trading Hughes for anything other than Johan Santana or Jake Peavy.

As for the 'rival GM' who isn't on the hype, he is probably one of the 20 rival GMs that passed on Hughes in the draft and allowed him to fall into our laps at 21 overall.

absolutely moronic idea...

the yankees have way too much invested in hughes. all the lore and hype built up for this guy since last year, thats how long hes been "untouchable" so to say. to trade him for a power 1b who is barely a 300 hitter? please, hughes is worth more than that when he didnt look so hot in his first outing and in spring training. rosenthal should know better....

for mark teixeira? please... there are much better young players that could be had if the yankees were willing to give up hughes.

Seriously, I wouldn't put it past them.

Theo: "Clay Buchholz is the greatest prospect ever and projects as a #1 bonafide ace. Phil Hughes, on the other hand, will be lucky to ever be in the major leagues and will get bombed once he is there. I'm not as high as the hype and think he's a #3 or #4 starter at best"
