News Radio 1080 KRLD in Dallas has just announced that a high level Texas Rangers source has said the deal sending Gagne to the Yankees "is a done deal." The deal will send 3-4 prospects from New York to Texas that will include Brett Gardner and Tyler Clippard.

Some people will be mad. I only like this deal if we resign Gagne at the end of the year. He is the future closer.

I'm assuming Clippard and Gardner are the biggest and best prospects in this trade, so hopefully the other two aren't much. If we can retain Gagne, and he's comfortable being the setup guy for another season or two, then this is will be a good trade I think if its true. It certainly will give the Yanks some leverage on the Rivera negotiations.

I will be very interested to see if this trade actually goes through. Clippard and Gardner isn't that good of a package, and it's a steal if we get Gagne for them. If Gagne stays healthy and we have the first dibs at extending him at the end of the year, then I really like this deal.

I don't think it's true.

Clippard was hurt in his last game earlier this week and is headed to the 7-day D.L

Gardner was hurt crashing into the center field wall on Friday and won't be playing until Tuesday.

If true, what a good job by Cashman. Hold on to the top tier prospects at all costs, and the way Melky is proving he can be an everyday CF in the Bronx (plus the recent emergance of Action Jackson) makes Gardner that much more expendable. And although we all wanted Clippard to succeed here, the truth is that he has no place in the future rotation unless he was going to be our #5, which makes him extremely expendable as well.

I'm curious as to who the other two guys are. There were reports that Marquez was somebody Texas liked also. I wouldn't really like throwing him into that deal, but we have to dump some of these pitchers some how, as dumb as that sounds.

But these are prospects, not major leaguers...so if Texas likes them that much then they can wait a week for them to play in their organization, there is no rush.

this should be interesting to see if we get him or not. obviously hes a huge upgrade, but we better resign him after the year. Will he resign as a setup man??

Truthfully, letting him walk and getting 2 draft picks isn't a bad situation at all. Not that we should not try to re-sign him, but if he wants to close elsewhere, that isn't all that bad for us.

If we let him walk, do we get two first rounders?? Or do we get a first rounder and a supplemental? How does the new system work?

I'm pretty sure it is a 1st rounder and a supplemental pick. But is the rule still in place that if the pick is top 15, then you get 2 supplemental picks?

Interesting. I don't know why but I am not sure if I would do this deal. Unless something else is involved coming back. I am just apprehensive because of the injury history and a good chance that he will bolt. If we were right there, leading the division or just a game or two back, I might say let's go for it and strengthen our team up to win this year. -Jitpal

Says on the frontpage of the MLB section that the Rangers have interest in Ian Kennedy and Marquez, also Melky.

Kinda risky. Gagne's been on the DL twice already this season. Anyone know how his velocity is?

His velocity is in the mid 90's.

Rather keep Marquez so I am all for the first one. I also really like that we are keeping Gardner. He could easily be up here next season or even later this year. -Jitpal

I'd much rather deal Karstens over Marquez, but reality is that there isn't much of a chance that either has a real future in this rotation, so it would be hard to be against any deal involving Marquez.
