Definitely not pleased about this. Between the Proctor deal and Boston apparantly close to netting Gagne this deadline has been awful for us.

Kandi, nobody gives a crap what you think.

Who cares if the Sox got Gagne? The Yankees offered what they thought was reasonable value and Daniels declined.

He's a rental anyways.

I'm not happy either, but the Yankees are building for something longterm not just the short-term fix anymore. We're developing our starters in the farm, and we aren't going to trade our higher starting prospects for the short-term. That's just the way it is. We just have to be patient because it's the non-moves like this that will pay off dividends in the future.

Agreed in that I prefer the direction of the franchise right now because of our strong minor league depth, but I'm not pleased that we're making lateral moves like Wilson Betemit for Scott Proctor. I'm also not pleased that we're facing the prospects of Dye AND Gagne moving into our divison halfway through the year without a strong move to counter beyond looking within.

Listen, obviously nobody is happy with this. But if Texas demanded Kennedy or Horne + from us, and took that crap from Boston, then so be it. Cashman can't change the stupidity of Daniels, which has been proven time after time. It's not Cashman's fault. I actually applaud him for having this much faith in the farm system he has built. I'd much rather see Kennedy and Horne in our rotation for 10-15 years than Gagne in our pen for 2 months, but that's just me.

Not a big deal. Gagne isn't Gagne anymore and there is still a good chance that Gagne vetoes this deal. We need to deal Clippard or Desalvo+prospect for Marte. We should be in good shape then. I got a gut feeling we are going to have a steal of a deal before the deadline is up on a guy no one has talked about. Gut feeling. -Jitpal

I read that the Pirates demanded Horne for Marte and Cashman basically laughed at them. This is the state of our system, everybody wants our top 6 guys (Hughes, Joba, Tabata, Kennedy, Jackson, Horne) but they aren't getting them. I'm all for keeping them, screw Marte and Gagne.

There still is some time left here, and I think the Yanks are still exploring other relieving options.

I read that too. His price will go down tremendously. There were also rumors that the Tigers were trying to get the Pirates to throw him in with Wilson and they would pick up more salary. I think we could get Marte for DeSalvo and change or like a DeSalvo and Farnsworth(with a lot, if not all, of the salary picked up). Just my guess. -Jitpal

Buster Olney was just on ESPN saying that the Yankees were told they would have to give up Ian Kennedy or Melky Cabrera. Then Texas takes nothing but mid level prospects from Boston. Seriously???

Olney just said Gagne was ours if we traded Melky or Kennedy but Cashman said no. Philips doesn't like that we didn't deal Melky for Gagne. So the Sox traded 3 prospects in Gabbard, Murphy and guy in the GCL that Gammons just called the next Girffey. -Jitpal

Texas wanted Ian Kennedy or Melky for Gagne. Glad we passed.

Steve Phillips can say all he wants about Melky, but this team needs some role players...they need some guys who are playing for their job and play with urgency and passion. Melky is the type of guy who you say "We can do better than," yet...he always finds his way back into the lineup...and just keeps hitting and producing.

If there wasn't any doubt that Philips was an idiot, there is none anymore.

i think NYY should have included melky in the deal.

Philips doesn't know what he is talking about regarding Melky. Melky is one of the best defensive CF out there. He shows tremendous patience at the plate for his age. Sure he won't be a 40/100 guy and he won't steal 40 bases a year but that isn't everything. He is hitting something like .370 in July. He is clutch and he provides so much energy and chemistry in the clubhouse. A glue guy. Plus he is a fan favorite. -Jitpal

Not worth it for a 2 month rental, give me Joba out of the pen instead
