Joba coming VERY soon?

Post#1 » by nykgeneralmanager » Wed Aug 1, 2007 1:29 am

We know the Yankees need a bullpen arm and that Joba is going to be the answer at some point, but this is a pretty interesting way of looking at when his arrival may be:

http://emedia.thetimes-tribune.com/Blog ... fault.aspx

I'll have more on this in the paper tomorrow, but here's the quick version of what happened with Joba Chamberlain before today's game in Rochester.

Roughly two hours before the first pitch, Chamberlain left for New York to get a passport. As he packed his stuff, having just been told of the unexpected trip, Chamberlain said that he would be making his second career relief appearance Thursday in Double-A rather than Wednesday in Triple-A.

Pitching coordinator Nardi Contreras said the trip was strictly about getting Chamberlain a passport and that pitching in Double-A was simply an option, not a definite.

The change in date and place seem to be simple logistics: Taking a day to travel and fill out paperwork would bump back Chamberlain's pitching schedule, and it will be easier to get from New York to Binghamton (where Trenton plays this week) than to go from New York to Ottawa (where Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is playing Wednesday and Thursday).

Getting the passport, however, is more curious and seems to point toward Yankees preparing for Chamberlain to make the big league trip to Toronto next week. Joe Torre told reporters in New York that Chamberlain would not be called up Wednesday.

We'll see, but this makes a lot of sense. You know the Yankees won't say anything until they actually call him up, but I'd say we can all prepare for a Joba sighting next week.

That would be friggin sweet. Hopefully Edwar is called up tommorow, Britton is called up when he gets off the DL, and Farnsworth is traded for a chalupa.

Tonight in relief: 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 BB, 5 Ks
All 5 Ks were swinging - 27 pitches, 17 strikes

I think that he has proven he can pitch in relief, get him up here for the Toronto series and dump Farnsworth. That would make this team so much scarier.

EDIT: His overall numbers in relief so far look like this...
4 innings, 1 hit, 0 BB, 10 Ks

Here are his stats as a reliever in Scranton: 3 IP, 1 H, 8 K, 0 BB.

And just for fun look at his AAA numbers when you include his 1 start that he made:

8 innings, 5 hits, 1 BB, 18 Ks

Okay...I'm done

Yeah pretty much sits at 98, hits 99 and even 100. But what makes it seem even harder is his slider, there are just no words to describe that pitch. And he's even been getting Ks on his curve, which is his 4th best pitch (his change is better than his curve IMO).

I think that if Ramirez, Chamberlain and Britton all show they are healthy and can get major league hitters out, then Farnsworth will be put on waivers and dealt.

But then again, Farnsworth can't get out major leaguers himself...

Farnsworth couldnt get me out...he would either

A) walk me
B) hit me
C) throw the ball away after I bunted
D) Do all three above at the same time, then try and pick me off and trow the ball into section 11

Or you would hit him. I could hit that straight 98 mph fastball and that flat slider.

Id rather just "let the bat sip out of my hands" and hit him in the gonads
