New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens has been suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing a pitch at Alex Rios of the Toronto Blue Jays in the bottom of the seventh inning of the game on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto after warnings had been issued to both Clubs earlier in the game. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Pending appeal, the suspension of Clemens is scheduled to begin on Friday, Aug. 10, when New York plays at Cleveland. If appealed, the suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.

In addition, Yankees manager Joe Torre has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for the intentional actions of Clemens after warnings had been issued earlier in the game. Torre is scheduled to serve his suspension on Friday night.

Also receiving undisclosed fines for their roles in the incidents during Tuesday's game were New York's Alex Rodriguez and coaches Larry Bowa and Tony Pena and Toronto's Matt Stairs and Josh Towers and coach Brian Butterfield.

just to tick of mlb, the players should get a money hat going around the clubhouse to collect funds for the fines

ARod gets fined for being thrown at twice?

Anyway, hopefully Karstens doesn't get the spot start. I don't know if they would move Joba back to being a starter for a day as he seems pretty comfortable as a reliever, but maybe Kennedy gets a spot start with Karstens ready in long relief.

It would have been good if we waited till the next day but i guess Roger was the only one we had left that would throw at anyone sad.

He's useless anyways hurts us more to have him in the rotation.

Absolutely - its an unbearable punishment watching him trot out there every 5 days.

I think Roger gettin suspended is dumb as shiz, what if he really didnt mean it... they dont have any more proof if it was intentional or not. But i understand Torre gettin supsended.

I would be all over that in a second, even if you didnt give Farnsworth. Go check his stats last year, if you still want to do it, I will sign on behalf of Riccardi ;)

is clemens going to even miss anytime? why not file an appeal, make his next start, serve the suspension, come back on schedule for his next start.
