The one thing Pettitte has always been throughout his career is a guy who can be counted on to stop a losing streak.

^ Just like Roy Halladay. Yankees need to start putting another streak if they want to contend for the division.

I expected them to at least give em challenge like the Orioles did... instead now they just lost to a rook starting his first game. Now we will hear from the Red Sox fans/board and ESPN about Clay Bucholz how much he is better then Hughes and Joba... and blah blah blah. I am sure Steve Phillips and Peter Gammons will make a big deal out of it.

Buchholz is the top pitching prospect in baseball, even ahead of Joba. He isn't on Hughes' level, but there have been some scouts that have rated Buchholz as high or higher. Buchholz is not a 2nd tier prospect.

The link you posted is pretty comical, however. Buchholz's fastball is as straight as an arrow, that's his major flaw (and his fastball command). His secondary stuff is filthy though.

I think Buchholz is on Hughes' level. That's just me, though.

A pitcher's offspeed stuff can be great, but it will hard to do anything other than ''get by'' with an average fastball followed by below average fastball command. Hughes' curveball is as good as Buchholz's if not better, and Hughes' fastball is better because of the pinpoint command. Obviously Buchholz has the better change, but as Hughes' change develops he will blow Buchholz out of the water unless Buchholz makes some serious strides with his fastball which is yet to happen.

In the last year, Hughes has made much more progress with his change than Buchholz has with his fastball, and that's the difference to me.

EDIT: And let's not forget that Hughes just turned 21, while Buchholz just turned 23. When Hughes is 23 he will be close to already being the ace of this staff if not already.

No need for any thoughts on that nonsense. Hughes was about to throw a no hitter in his 2nd major league appearance and outdueled a cy young candidate on the road in a big game last week. And in the two starts that he didn't pitch well, it was because he tired early in the 5th inning. He just turned 21 and he is averaging less than a hit per inning and a strikeout per inning. That's impressive for any major league pitcher, whether they're 41 or 21. Not to mention that all of Hughes' starts in pinstripes have either come right after a call up and the second wave came right after a 3 month long injury. Imagine what he would be doing once settled down for even just a month?

Hughes' overall numbers don't even do justice to how well he has pitched, and his overall numbers are still damn impressive. His only problem has been pitch count, he's gotta keep that down so he can last into the 7th.
