It's funny because for just about every other single major league team, when their top 3 pitching prospects reach the majors they look around and say "Damn, now there is nobody to follow in the minors." But with us, there are another 10-15 legit pitching prospects to turn our attention to. Maybe not ace caliber pitchers like Hughes or Joba, but certainly future major leaguers comparable to Kennedy.

The funny thing about this move is that I think that Ian Kennedy is pretty much the closest thing you'll find to a young Mike Mussina. It's quite odd, really. I've watched Kennedy many times and each and every time he reminds me of Moose. He doesn't have the blazing fastball Mike had in his Oriole days, but he has everything else. It's ironic that he is taking Moose's place in the rotation, even if it's temporary.

For the sake of conversation, I'll consider Hughes, Joba, and Kennedy major leaguers. In terms of just pitching prospects, I'd probably rank them the following:

1. Alan Horne
2. Delin Betances
3. Humberto Sanchez
4. Christian Garcia
5. Andrew Brackman
6. Ross Ohlendorf
7. Mark Melancon (can't wait until he gets back, he can climb this list very quickly)
8. Tyler Clippard
9. Danial McCutchen
10. Zach McAllister

I didn't even count guys like Marquez, Cox, Nova, etc.
From the draft class, Ryan Pope has been REALLY impressive. He was under the radar because he was a late bloomer from a low key school, but still managed to be a high draft pick which shows how good he is. I really like him a lot.

And one of the most intriguing prospects in our entire system to me is Jairo Heredia. There just aren't 17 year olds that can do what he has. If he continues to impress once he reaches long season ball, people around baseball will take notice of him VERY quickly. He can be our next "ace" prospect other than Betances.

Yea I dont see how he can pitch worse than moose has been. What do you think Moose is going to do over the winter? DO you think he might retire? He is such a perfection artist, he probably is more mad at himself than anyone else.

I wish you guys would get off the hype around Sanchez and Brackman until they come back and prove they can pitch after the surgery.

Curious, with that 93% success rate, how many of those "successful" ones lost velocity? I heard some gain velocity, but any idea because this might affect certain pitchers more than others ie. Brackman is a velocity guy.

Who knows, really. $11.5 guarenteed is a lot of money, even for a guy who has made a ton of it over his career.

There are some that do end up better, true. There are also some that can't find it again. That being said, these guys were prospects and we never knew how they would pan out in the beginning. At least let them prove themselves at AAA before you call them Major League Pitchers.

That is the whole basis of a PROSPECT. You don't wait until they are in the majors to talk about whether or not they can make an impact on this level. We are supposed to sit here and discuss their ceiling and their potential, that is the whole reason we pay them ridiculous signing bonuses and such. Brackman was signed knowing he needed the surgery, and that can work out. The Orioles draft Bedard knowing he needed TJ Surgery, how is that working?
