Thoughts on this? I don't know if I would be as against it as I was earlier this year or at the end of the last year. It's an interesting thought. -Jitpal

I'd like to see a year where Joe Torre got quality starting pitching for the entire year before we judge what kind of manager he is. Since 2003, let's be honest, Joe Torre has gotten the short end of the stick with the starting pitching.
I'd be in favor of keeping him for as long as he'd like. Just get him some good starting pitching please.

The biggest reason I think Joe might need to stay around is Giambi, Damon, Moose, and Abreu. If you think Giambi is going to accept a bench role with Girardi as the manager you are mistaken. If you think Damon, Abreu and Matsui will all peacefully co-exist with Girardi as manager then you are mistaken. Moose will be Moose and he won't have anyone to stop him if Girardi is the manager. The year after, all of these problems are gone. Giambi, Moose and Abreu will no longer be on the books and thus, the team will likely be full of young players. Damon will still be here but he could be handled alone. This has to be taken into account in the managerial decision. However, I would really like to have Girardi installed into the dugout. I don't care how. Call him a special advisor or a catching coach or something. Get him in there, get him on the company line and get him acclimated to the guys he will manage in '09 in the new ballpark. Let him get to know Kennedy, Hughes, Joba, Cano, Melky, Wang and whoever else. It will be a smoother transition. -Jitpal

Let's see if we get to the playoffs & how we do in said playoffs before we address this. Regardless, it will be a very busy offseason for the Yankees. A Rod, Posada, Mo & Torre having to get new contracts/extensions & Cashman's job security if we miss the playoffs (I know it seems crazy but I can see George consider giving him the axe despite the post ASG success).
Interesting offseason coming up.

Mo and Jorge will find it very hard to leave if Joe is replaced, Pettitte will definitly not retire. If Joe is gone, I don't know how those three will feel...they may find it easier to bolt if someone offers them more money...Pettitte may retire.
