Johan Santana for Kennedy and Melky

There's been lots of talk about the Dodgers needing to do something dramatic this offseason, and Johan Santana's name has popped up in a potential blockbuster, with the Dodgers perhaps sending prized prospects such as lefty Clayton Kershaw or outfielder Matt Kemp to the Twins. The big question is, will the Twins deal Santana now or try to win with him one more time? One AL executive theorized, "There are a few teams who could match up with the Twins. Would the Yankees deal Melky Cabrera and an Ian Kennedy for Santana? How about Boston? Would they send a Clay Buchholz and a Jacoby Ellsbury for him? The Mets? There are few teams who could handle the paycheck you'd have to give Santana and also be able to part with key prospects."

Interesting comment that some AL executive wonders if Cashman would give up Kennedy and Melky for Johan. Personally, I doubt that is enough for Santana and we would probably have to give up Horne or someone else as well. I'd do it without a doubt Melky, Kennedy and Horne for Johan. A rotation of Johan, Wang, Pettitte, Hughes, Chamberlain/Moose is as dominant as one can get. You could possibly go after Hunter for CF or live with Damon until Jackson or Gardner are ready to start there full-time. Thoughts? -Jitpal

If we offered Kennedy and Melky and the Red Sox offered Buchholz and Ellsbury, guess who the Twins are going to deal with.

HINT: It's not us.

Johan for Kenendy and Melky? I do it in a heartbeat and I'll even drive both of them to the airport. Give them Horne and Jackson too, I don't care.

When the Twins are in rumors associated with Beltran for Santana, don't even bother embarassing yourself with Melky for Johan. Lets be real for a second here, we are talking about Johan Santana, easily a 20 game winner in the NL. You would think Twins would do better than Kennedy and Melky.

"latest" met rumor is

reyes pelfrey carlos gomez

moronic...

If minn called me up and asked for reyes I MIGHT listen, but for gomez and pelfrey? please.... not for a potential rent-a player whos bound to have the biggest contract for a pitcher ever...

you MIGHT listen to a deal straight up for Reyes?

You also might be Steve Phillips

Oh come on, Reyes was the darling of the sports world for about a year and a half - up until the break this season. I wouldn't sour on him so quickly. Johan is a fantastic player, easily the best pitcher in baseball for the last 5 years, but Reyes is still an incredibly young and really special player with a reasonable contract who should bounce back from what was just far too steep a drop-off.

I'd like to see us continue to build from within and not try to assemble the best team on paper. Chemistry is not on paper. I can't deny the talent Santana has, but let's continue with what we have. There is a reason we haven't won the WS in the last few years.

Thats ok you can read the original post and the other posts where everyone here knows this isn't possible. Now go read the post on the Mets board where people say they wouldn't trade Reyes straight up for Santana...I actually just got my new keyboard in.

I'm on the fence about that too. I was/am pissed at Reyes for sucking so bad since August 1, but I think someone will get Santana for less - just not for Kennedy and Melky

I forgot, Gomez and Pelfrey are such a better package. I mean, a corner outfielder who has no power and a starting pitcher who only has a fastball.

Come on dude...where did you see a proposal consisting only of Gomez and Pelfrey for Santana. Try to keep up

I mean at least the original poster would throw in Horne - not quite a side busting but funny nonetheless...
